Did You Know...

... that the Indoor Cloud League generated another new NWSL team?

1st place in February: iFLY Orlando
posted Mar 12th, 2015 - It is time for the BEST OF FEBRUARY videos of the Indoor Cloud League, as the first scores and videos for March will be posted very soon.

The six participating tunnel groups in February generated a total of eight highscores for the six categories. The highscore for the A Class sequence (G,J,7) was most fought for, and three teams ended up tied with 23 points each.

iFLY Orlando finished with additional three highscores, two of them (AAA - AA) performed by the Golden Knights. The Hurricane Factory claimed two highscores, while iFLY SF Bay and iFLY Seattle had one each. Only SkyVenture Montreal and iFLY Dallas did not have any of the highest numbers last month.

New 4-way team out of iFLY Seattle's Indoor Cloud League group
iFLY Seattle outscored two other RR Class lineups by one single point to win this category. Jay Alspach, Kelli Alspach, Zack Smathers and player coach Deb Correia scored the 23-pointer.

Deb Correia reported that her iFLY Seattle group started February with another 2-on-2 skills camp: "Paul Stoddard and Isaac Bahr flew with myself and Jeff Smith; Randy Barbee and Jeremy Richmond had player coaches David Zhang and Djordje Mandaric. Each group first worked on 1-on-1 skills, focusing on cheated cat grips and compressed accordions before moving on to the ICL sequences."

After the skills camp, the coaches stayed and flew the AA and AAA sequences for the iFLY Seattle team.

Size matters: Deb Correia with her R Class lineup
The second Indoor Cloud League event at iFLY Seattle in February had three groups, with seven participants and five player coaches. David Zhang worked with Randy Barbee, Bill Selig and Isaac Bahr for the RRR and A sequences. Deb Correia and Jay Alspach started off with Agata Staniak and Nat Mote, while Jeff Smith and Djordje Mandaric had Mike Armanios and John Brown in their lineup, all of them flying the three Rookie Class sequences.

Deb Correia said that partway through the flying session, the coaches determined that "size DOES matter", which counts especially for Random Formation G (Cataccord). Djordje Mandaric and Deb Correia eventually switched teams, which lead to greater success. She said that there is at least a 1-foot difference in size between the two coaches.

Deb Correia also worked with two other groups separately, and those two groups turned in three of iFLY Seattle's six best scores (RR - RRR - A). Last and not least at all, she said that three of her her constant participants (Isaac Bahr, Randy Barbee, Kurt Ferstl) have decided to start a team for the NWSL outdoor meets this year. Deb Correia is excited to see that happen: "That's the whole point of doing the ICL events. We're definitely seeing more interest in 4-way here in the Northwest!"
