NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that the Golden Knights scored high for iFLY Orlando's Indoor Cloud League group?

Golden Knights at iFLY Orlando
posted Feb 6th, 2015 - The mention of the French Girls in a Sun Path Products NSL News update usually triggers another team name, the Golden Knights, either in the same story or shortly afterwards, and vice versa. This time, the French update was first, and it took exactly one day until the Golden Knights story follows. In fact, the update from the US Army headquarters has been in the works while the French Girls are training in Dubai.

The Golden Knights are actually away from the headquarters, in a training camp in Florida, and the Sun Path Products NSL News was planning a field trip to the training site, the MacDill Air Force Base in Avon Park, on Thursday.

The plans changed when bad weather was forecast for yesterday, and coach Solly Williams took the 4-way Women team to iFLY Orlando for indoor training. The 8-way team did not travel to Orlando, while team videographer Scott Janise used the breaks in the 1-hour flying time for freeflying practice.

Studying the 12-foot flying chamber...
The Golden Knights are used to train in Paraclete XP's 16-foot flying chamber. The 12-foot chamber at iFLY Orlando was a challenging new experience for the team. However, coach Solly Williams explained that the smaller flying chamber has its merits, even for a world class team.

The 12-foot flying chamber in Orlando was the only indoor training tool that was available for his own team DeLand Majik, 4-way world champion of 2004, and they used it on a regular basis. He said that it forces teams to use the space efficiently and keep the formations and distances small.

The Golden Knights adjusted quickly to the limited space and went through all the Blocks and Random Formations that can be executed in iFLY Orlando's 12-foot flying chamber.

Preparations for the Indoor Cloud League sequences
The US national 4-way team in 4-way Women, silver medalist behind the French Girls at the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2014 and bronze medalist in the 4-way Open Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2014, were in fact ready for top performance when it was time for the Indoor Cloud League February sequences.

Coach Solly Williams and the team had agreed to help the Florida ICL group to a good start into the new month by flying the AAA and AA Class sequences for iFLY Orlando. The 55-point start (28 - 27) is the best one that iFLY Orlando has had for the two top categories in the history of the Indoor Cloud League, even when faster sequences were drawn earlier.

The February sequences bring slot switchers and memory to one of the pieces (Block 16) in the AAA Class, while the AA Class sequence includes Block 11, which is a challenging task in a 12-foot flying chamber for most of the teams and competitors. The Golden Knights put out two scores that will be a challenging target for the Czech Bad Boys, who have recently been dominating those two categories...
