Did You Know...

... that the World Challenge celebrates its 10-year anniversary this April?

Christy Frikken (2nd from left): "Bedrock Showdown"
posted Jan 19th, 2015 - It's time to take a closer look at the 2015 schedule, as it will not be too long until the first major events of the year will be around the corner.

SDC Rhythm XP's center inside Christy Frikken mentioned the "Bedrock Showdown" during the NSL Talk on 13 January 2015 to explain her team's travel agenda for the annual spring meet tour.

She meant the three events that have launched the annual international competition season in the past years: Paraclete XP Indoor and Outdoor Championships 2015, followed by the World Challenge 2015. The same round-trip (Bedford - Raeford - DeLand) is happening again this year within a time frame of five weeks.

45 teams competed at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship last year, including the 8-way teams. 16 teams from ten different countries competed at the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship on the following weekend, and the World Challenge 2014 topped it off with a record total of 77 teams in 4-way Open and additional 11 teams in 4-way Women.

SDC Rhythm XP is one of the teams who will complete the whole spring competition tour, and the first lists of participating teams will be posted soon.

The Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship, including the popular Shamrock Showdown Skins Game, has traditionally been the event that indicates where the top teams will finish at the major meets at the end of the competition season. This year's event will feature the first outdoor confrontation between Arizona Airspeed and top challenger SDC Rhythm XP, who will be joined again by Golden Knights and Carolina Turbo XP.

NMP-PCH Hayabusa at the Paraclete XP Indoor 2014
The winner of the March outdoor meet in DeLand will also be the USPA champion of the new season - if history will repeat itself once again this year.

The same counts for the World Championship of Formation Skydiving, even though last year's event was an exception. NMP-PCH Hayabusa became the new 4-way world champions and had not won the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship 2014. However, that was only due to the fact that team member Roy Janssen was sick, and his team could not continue on Friday after the training jumps on Thursday.

The 2015 season is only a qualification year for the World Meet 2016 at Skydive Chicago. The start of the US top teams and the other international teams into the 2015 season is probably the most interesting part of the event this year, as each team that wants to compete at the world meet has to win at the national championships later in 2015.

Opening ceremony at the World Challenge 2014
The annual World Challenge is the unofficial indoor world championship in 4-way competition. There are several other indoor meets across the planet, as indoor training and competition has become very popular. However, the World Challenge has established itself on the top spot after ten years of 4-way competition at Bodyflight Bedford.

In fact, the World Challenge 2015 is the 10-year anniversary of the event. 12 teams were at the inaugural competition in 2006, and owner Paul Mayer has attracted more teams year by year to the current record participation number of 88 teams in the 4-way categories (AAA - AA - A - Rookie - 4way Women).

The World Challenge also includes an open artistic event, which will incorporate FreeFly, Dynamic and Vertical rounds. Rules and the competition format for this event will be announced closer to the beginning time of this year's World Challenge.
