Did You Know...

... that the Bad Boys won the nationals and lost the world meet?

Bad Boys at the Czech Nationals 2014
posted Aug 17th, 2014 - The results of the Czech Nationals 2014 came along with sad news for the host of the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2014 in Prostejov.

The good news for the Czech national 4-way team in the Open Class, Bad Boys, was defending last year's gold medals successfully last week. The bad news is the withdrawal from the upcoming world meet.

Jan Klapka said that Center Inside Vaclav Prokes is still trying to recover from a shoulder injury. He will not be back in action before September. The Bad Boys had their alternate Jarda Smitka in the Center Outside slot, while Jan Lukavec took Vaclav Prokes' Center Inside position. Alternate Jarda Smitka is not available at the time of the world meet, and the Bad Boys decided to withdraw from the 4-way Open Class competition in Prostejov.

Out with knee injury: Michal Podruh (left), in for Rounds 5 - 10: Steve Tuma (2nd from right)
This is bad luck for the Bad Boys who have been working hard and successfully to increase the performance and scoring level since former national competitor Jan Lukavec joined the lineup. Only the CZ Ladies will now compete for the Czech Republic on home turf.

The Bad Boys still had a good battle for the Czech gold medals with Hvezdy who attended their first outdoor competition this year. Hvezdy had bad luck when one team member injured his knee after landing from Round 4 and could not continue.

However, Hvezdy was able to recruit Steve Tuma, a member of the Czech national team Lize at the Mondial Dubai 2012, who filled the slot for the remaining six rounds. Bad Boys member Jan Lukavec and Steve Tuma were team mates for the Czech Republic at the Mondial Dubai 2012. Jan Klapka said that the competition between the two teams then heated up round by round.

Czech national team in 4-way Women: CZ Ladies
Bad Boys and Hvezdy were eventually tied going into Round 10 when Hvezdy had even more bad luck. Videographer Jitka Hejlova slipped off the door step on the exit for Round 10 and could not recover early enough to capture any scoring formations. The Bad Boys won by the 20-pointer in Round 10.

Jan Klapka said that the CZ Ladies had also trouble with their videos and lost points in each round. The Czech national team in 4-way Women asked Bad Boys videographer Mirek Slansky after the competition to help out at the world meet. He agreed and will train and compete with the CZ Ladies until the end of the upcoming competition in Prostejov.

Jan Klapka will also be at the world meet, as his wife Jirina Klapkova is the Center Inside for the CZ Ladies. He will help the team with coaching at their first international outdoor competition.
