Did You Know...

... that Rookie Class team ZEUS bailed out the Florida Indoor Cloud League group at iFLY Orlando?

Not good enough: FSL group on December 17
posted Jan 1st, 2014 - The Sun Path Products NSL News reported on 19 December 2013 that there was pressure on iFLY Orlando's Florida Skydiving League group at the Indoor Cloud League competition for the month of December. Florida had to win the last meet of the year to tie iFLY Seattle's Northwest Skydiving League group in 1st place.

The amount of pressure became obvious when the Czech Republic Skydiving League group posted a higher total score (130) than Florida (119) just a few days later at the Sportsflight Skydive Arena in Prague. iFLY Orlando dropped even lower in the rankings when the Northern California Skydiving League group followed up with a total of 126 points for December.

It was the first time in Indoor Cloud League history that Florida was in 3rd place at any moment in time, and something needed to happen before the month would be over. Deb Correia had not even posted the iFLY Seattle scores at that point in time. Something did happen, and it had the team name ZEUS...

The team name ZEUS appeared for the first time at SKYLEAGUE.COM when three of the current team members attended their first 4way competition of the Florida Skydiving League in October this year. The story on 19 October 2013 introduced the team that had never completed a 4way formation at a meet before player coach Bob Byrne then guided the Rookie Class team to a 3.3 average at Skydive City.

It was the beginning of an impressive 3-month team career that peaked at the end of the 2013 season with the currently posted 42-pointer for iFLY Orlando and Florida in the Rookie A Class, which was most likely also the winner of the Indoor Cloud League competition for December 2013.

The three ZEUS members realized the value of coaching at the FSL meet, and two of them signed up for the indoor activities of the Florida Skydiving League group in November. James Hopkins and Amer Kassas teamed up with Joel Kmetz and player coach Gilles Dutrisac for the Rookie A Class sequence and added 33 points to the FSL account. Florida ended up in 2nd place for November.

James Hopkins and Amer Kassas also met John Stares who had joined the Florida indoor group earlier this year and offered him the 4th ZEUS slot. The team had a complete lineup, and next step was to sign up for the Indoor Cloud League competition of December.

ZEUS Point Ryan Taylor had his ICL debut at the first part of Florida's flying sessions at iFLY Orlando, and the complete ZEUS lineup posted the 16-pointer that was a part of the first total of 119 points. It turned out a few days later that the total of 119 points would only be good enough for the 3rd place in December.

Florida had the highest scores in all categories except the AAA Class and the Rookie A Class. ZEUS promised to come back at the end of December and went on a amission...

New ICL record total: Florida group on December 30
The pressure was not only on ZEUS in the Rookie A Class. Florida needed a higher score for the AAA Class sequence, too. Eventually, Florida improved the scores in four of the six categories and finished with the highest total in the short Indoor Cloud League history. However, ZEUS alone lifted Florida to the 1st place by going from 16 to incredible 42 points for the same sequence.

The ZEUS members had committed to the ICL team mission and were very well prepared. All team members had white gloves, with two brandnew pairs of NSL Gloves, and they had also signed up for indoor team training before the second ICL flying session at iFLY Orlando on December 30.

Coach Ari Perelman gave ZEUS and the team mission the deserved attention and had the team ready to score an outstanding number of points for Florida. He also joined the AAA Class lineup himself and added four more points for the December sequence. The ZEUS mission has been accomplished very successfully, and it was the first and last Rookie A Class appearance for some of the team members and the last one for all of them...
