NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that only Voluntas made a move in the World Challenge's Round 10?

CamScore's Andy Mansfield and Jo Bell in DeLand
posted May 12th, 2009 - NSL YouTube TV completed the coverage of the Top 12 teams at the World Challenge 2009 with the uploaded videos of Round 10 and the NSL News story on 9 May 2009. It was a Satori udate at the same time, the UK team that seems to be the British top contender this year.

Videos of other teams outside of the Top 12 have already been uploaded, as well, and more will follow, thanks to CamScore who provided the judging videos for the NSL News and NSL-TV audience. By the way, there is a very good chance that NSL News and CamScore will work together again at this year's FAI World Cup and the USPA Nationals.

At this point, NSL YouTune TV presents another video that shows six teams from the up close perspective inside the tunnel chamber at Bodyflight Bedford. The NSL-TV camera had already captured teams in full action earlier in the competition. Round 10 was the last opportunity in Bedford to get more of this outstanding footage of the best skydivers in the world.

The timing was challenging, as there were scores to be uploaded, stories to be posted, while the teams and competitors were watching the judging of previous rounds in the viewing hangar and then prepared for the last round. Bodyflight Bedford's owner Paul Mayer had decided to hold the meet after Round 9 until all scores were posted.

However, the NSL-TV camera made it into the tunnel chamber in time to capture at least six of the Top 12 teams with their performances in Round 10. The order of the teams on this video is: Pussy Galore - GKXP - XL - Arcteryx Nice - Hayabusa Defence - Perris Fury.

The NSL-TV camera moved from the tunnel chamber to the viewing hangar as soon as possible, as the large crowd was already watching the judging of the last round, and the atmosphere was exciting there. The video of the final round's judging will be uploaded later.

It was still an exciting situation after Round 9, even though it was clear that Airspeed had already secured the 17th consecutive victory in the team's 17th competition, indoor and outdoor meets included. Perris Fury in 2nd place after Round 9 was only two points ahead of Hayabusa Defence, and the difference between 2nd and 3rd was exactly £1,500 on the cash end.

XL was only three points behind Hayabusa in 4th place and had not given up yet on the £1,500 for the 3rd place, instead of £500 for the 4th.

Other close internal races within the field would also be decided in Round 10. Satori and Kaktus Hunter were tied going into the last round, and Aerokart Pamiers was one point behind both. France Veloce and Evolution from Sweden were separated by one single point.

Made a move in Round 10: Voluntas
The competition for the 15th place was hot, as Italy's teams 3MD and Ex3fun, Finland's Pro Team and Oxygene from France were within one point of each other. Even five teams were in a race for the 19th place (Frost, Area 51, Vertigo the Zoo, Voluntas and Alpen Glow).

Nothing changed in the cash area and the Top 4 rankings. Perris Fury defended the 2nd place successfully in Round 10, and XL moved one point closer to Hayabusa. That was all, as the sequence of Round 10 did not seem to allow a serious charge or meltdown anyway.

Satori broke the tie with Kaktus Hunter and took the 8th place alone. Aerokart Pamiers caught up with the Russian team and shared the 9th place. The French pickup team of world class competitors, Veloce, added a point to the lead over Sweden's Evolution.

All other teams in the races within the field, between 13th and 21st place, scored 17- or 18-pointers in the last round. Only the Danish national team Voluntas made a move in Round 10 with a 19-pointer, which was rewarded with climbing up by two slots in the final rankings.
