Did You Know...

... that Bodyflight Voluntas seems to be on track?

Denmarks' 4way progression
posted May 8th, 2012 - Bodyflight Voluntas, Denmark's national 4way team, was also one of the eleven teams who launched the 2012 season with the meet combination of Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship 2012 and World Challenge 2012.

This double header as the season opener has become an annual tradition for Voluntas. The Danish national team has traveled from Denmark to Florida and then to Bedford each year since 2009. Kasper Brandt-Svanekier in the Point slot is now the only remaining original member of the 2009 lineup. He was also in the Voluntas lineup that set all the new national 4way records at the World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk.

The team name "Voluntas" appeared on the NSL website for the first time in January 2009. The preview of the World Challenge 2009 briefly mentioned a new team from Denmark, and the review of the Shamrock Showdown 2009 eventually included a complete introduction of Voluntas on 30 March 2009.

The NSL News reported at the end of the 2011 season that the new 2012 lineup was eager to begin with the training. Team speaker Martin Søeby Mikkelsen said at that time that his team had high expectations considering three returning members and the comeback of a national record setting Voluntas member of 2010. Voluntas would be ready to pursue the unofficial title of the amateur world champion next year and take the top spot of 4way teams in Scandinavia.

The Bodyflight Voluntas 2012 lineup is now looking back at this year's double header. The results are similar to the ones of the past years, and they are promising. The record setting 2009/2010 lineup started with a 14.8 average at the Shamrock Showdown 2009, and the 2012 lineup posted a 14.9 average in March this year.

Then the 2009/2010 lineup finished with an 18.8 average at the World Challenge 2009, while Bodyflight Voluntas 2012 posted a 19.7 average in Bedford this year and reduced the distance to Polaris significantly, as the NSL News reported earlier. Voluntas was slightly ahead in March 2010 (15.4 - 14.9) compared to this year. However, the 2012 season is much longer, and the current lineup seems to be on track to catch up and leave the scores of the 2009/2010 lineup behind soon.

The target for the goal that Martin Søeby Mikkelsen defined before the beginning of the 2012 season is still Paratec-Saar, the unofficial German amateur champions who will try to defend this title in Dubai 2012. Thunder and DeLand Norgies will not compete at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving. Defeating the German team in Dubai will be tough enough, and Sweden's team Bardagi is also getting ready to pursue the unofficial Scandinavian championship title, as the NSL News reported yesterday.

At the same time, the two other Danish project teams are showing progress, as well. Veyron is already beyond the scoring level of last year's B-Team Bodyflight Atlas (11.8) in March 2011, and Contrails of 2011 had posted a 7.4 average at the Danish Nationals 2011 in September. Contrails 2012 just posted a 10.3 average at the April meet of the Florida Skydiving League.

Denmark's national championships are scheduled for July, and Bodyflight Voluntas will then have four more months to get ready for the World Meet 2012, including the unofficial world amateur championship and the unofficial Scandinavian Championship.
