Did You Know...

... that two teams from the Netherlands had their own competition in DeLand?

Original Arcteryx 2008 lineup
posted May 12th, 2008 - The videos of Round 5 of the FSL April meet have been added to the NSL-TV coverage of the competition in DeLand. It was the last round for the Florida Skydiving League teams before a weather system interrupted the skydiving operation for too long, and the meet was called after five rounds.

Norway's national 4-way team Arcteryx, with Thomas Hughes filling Ole Petter Hjelle's Tail slot, finally added some distance to the 2-point lead over Canada Evolution after four rounds and three tied 22-pointers. The LeMay family lost one point in the judging room and gave up a total of three points in this round - more than in the four previous rounds all together. Teiwaz, Sequence and Orange Blue each suffered a 1-point deduction, as well.

Arcteryx is now back in full training swing with the original 2008 lineup and recently copies the draw of the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2008 that the Norwegian team missed this year. The NSL News will try to get a few videos and up-to-date information directly from the team.

Dutch team Orange Blue
The medal contender from Scandinavia missed the Shamrock Showdown, then competed with the full lineup at the World Challenge 2008 and attended the FSL April meet with Thomas Hughes.

The NSL News already covered the Danish duel between the national team Blaze and project team Sequence with the story on 8 May 2008. The Netherlands had two teams in the same event in DeLand, as well.

Orange Blue is a new Dutch lineup and consists of Harold Boehholt (Center Outside), Martyn Maathias (Tail), Eugene Quax (Point), Rien van Duren (Center Inside) and Hans Ypma (Camera). It was the first training camp with coach Gary Smith, and the team used the opportunity to collect the first meet experiences for this lineup.

Turbulence at a Dutch league meet in 2004
The team name Turbulence appeared in the NSL News the first time already in June 2004: "Turbulence had already competed at the first DHC meet this year and improved the team's scores from a 4.4 average to the 8.8 average last weekend. 30 minutes of free SkyVenture tunnel time go to Europe."

The Dutch team had won the SkyVenture competition after handicap that weekend, which was a very popular NSL award feature at that time. 20 teams were on the A Class leaderboard, and Turbulence had the top position.

Turbulence continued in 2005, moved up into the AAA Class competition and attended three meets (5.7 - 6.6 - 6.8) in June, August and September. The August meet was the Dutch Nationals 2005, the September meet was the ESL Championship 2005.

Turbulence lineup of 2006, 2007 and 2008
Jasper Kremer, Mark Schindeler, Cengo Ulusan, Yvonne Visser and Henk Bootsveld on camera were in the Turbulence lineup of 2006. The team's meet averages in the AAA Class went up to 8.6 and 8.0 at two 10-round meets that year.

The same lineup came back for the 2007 season and attended three meets (10.6 - 11.1 - 14.0) on the next higher performance and scoring level. Turbulence competed in the AA Class at the first two meets of the 2007 season. Then the Dutch delegation for the ESL Championship 2007 sent the team down into the AA Class where Turbulence collected important points for the Netherlands. The Dutch delegation won the ESL Spirit 2007 with the help of Turbulence.

Dutch ESL 2006 delegation
The first Turbulence scores of the 2008 season, a 10.4 average at the FSL April meet, were posted by exactly the same lineup of 2006 and 2007. Jasper Kremer (Center Outside), Mark Schindeler (Point), Cengo Ulusan (Center Inside), Yvonne Visser (Tail) and Henk Bootsveld (Camera) launched the team's 2008 season with a training camp in DeLand, supervised by coach Gary Smith, as well.

The first scores seem to pick up the pace of the 2007 season.

The NSL News will follow the Dutch teams on their way through the 2008 season and to the ESL Championship 2008, held for the first time on their home turf.
