FSL Hosts Dramatic Finale

Skydive Deland hosted the final season meet of the Florida Skydiving League in May. At the end of the meet, Sebastian XL and Deland Genesis were tied for the first-place season ranking. Genesis needed a first- or second-place finish in this tenth meet to win the championship. But after losing six points due to busts, the team finished only third. XL gained two more league points, putting them in a tie with Genesis and forcing a jump-off. Based on its scores in this meet, Genesis had a new handicap of 2.5. XL had none, so the team had to score at least three points more than Genesis to win the jump-off and the season championship. Genesis scored 15; Sebastian XL scored 18, cinching the narrow victory. ZSpot from Skydive City took third for the season.

The meet ran simultaneously with the America's Cup meet ("This Just In," June). The presence of Arizona Airspeed and the Golden Knights seemed to inspire the Florida teams, many of which set personal bests at the meet. Sebastian XL scored an FSL-high team average of 19.2. In round two, the UK team scored a new national record with 28 points in time. In the same round, Deland Genesis scored a new team high of 23 - bettering its score of 21 in the previous meet - despite a two-point bust. Genesis averaged 15 points for the meet - a team record. Meet ten's second-place team Club Sam from Deland scored its highest, as well: ten points in round two with a 6.3 average. ZSpot also finished the season with a new team-high average of 10.8. And Team Guinness achieved a two-digit score for the first time in the team's history.

The Florida Skydiving League awarded the PD Cup and $1,400 cash to the season champions, Sebastian XL. The league handed out first, second and third place medals, as well as medals for the most improved team. Deland Genesis won this last honor after its narrow defeat in the jump-off.

With its second season over, the Florida Skydiving League's management, teams and hosts are looking forward to another exciting season next year.
