Did You Know...

... that Freeflying maneuvers did not earn extra 4-way points in Bedford?

Teams line-up at the tunnel chamber
posted Apr 30th, 2007 - The NSL News coverage of the World Challenge 2007 has not been completed yet. The actual judging videos of the tunnel competition at Bodyflight Bedford are still not available at the moment. However, the NSL-TV camera still captured a lot of other footage, which has already been uploaded in portions.

This time, NSL-TV brings live pictures of the atmosphere in the area of action on Sunday morning. The first group of teams was just coming from the flying chamber into the reception hall, while other teams got ready for their first flying session for Round 6, when the NSL-TV camera was turned on.

The first group of teams flying on Sunday morning included Team Fastrax and XL. Both teams had their own specific stories when the NSL News approached them after Round 6.

Team Fastrax without Steve Redinbo
The Fastrax members were in great spirits after a successful Round 6 and for another reason, as well. The 26-pointer for a slower sequence (8-16-D) was the highscore for the round, which would be tied by Airspeed Odyssey at the end of the team rotation.

The other reason for great Fastrax spirits was the fact that the team re-connected with its videographer Steve Redinbo in a special way. Obviously, the teams don't need a freefall videographer for a wind tunnel competition. The tunnel camera films everything easily from the top and provides the judges with everything they need.

Team Fastrax with Steve Redinbo
However, the four Fastrax members in Bedford remembered that Steve Redinbo is a full team member and missed his presence at the World Challenge 2007. Steve Redinbo felt the same way on the other end. Fastrax eventually found a way to include him in the event.

Steve Redinbo manipulated the official NSL team photo at home and sent it to his team mates at the World Challenge 2007. Thomas Hughes forwarded it to the NSL News station in Bedford, and Team Fastrax asked the NSL News to replace the old team picture with the new one with the complete line-up. The NSL News could not deny the reasonable request.

The international version of the last XL reunion line-up for the World Challenge 2007 had its own reason for a healthy laugh on Sunday morning. XL's Center Outside, Steve Hamilton, left the flying chamber together with Team Fastrax after completing Round 6.

XL demonstration of the freeflying maneuver
He had a few remarks for the NSL News, as well, when the Fastrax members were finished explaining their team photo project. The NSL News did not really know by then how to understand his question whether a team would receive extra points for freeflying maneuvers.

The judging video, which was then shown for the whole audience, explained the meaning of Steve Hamilton's question. XL had a serious glitch at the very beginning of the sequence, which was mastered skillfully by XL's Center Outside. The whole XL line-up demonstrated the incident later for the NSL News.

The XL members did not receive any extra points for the freeflying maneuver and took it easily. Unfortunately, the morning for the second competition day was still the beginning of a slide for the team. XL lost the 2-point lead after the five rounds of the first day on Sunday morning and could not recover. Airspeed Odyssey and Team Fastrax passed XL in Round 6 and increased the distance with each round on Sunday.
