Did You Know...

... that the NSL SkyVenture Competition scores of the July 24 weekend are posted?

SkyVenture Orlando
posted Aug 2nd, 2004 - The first scores of last weekend's meets have been posted. The Great Lakes Skydiving League won this race for the earliest postings at the NSL website. The Carolina and Georgia Skydiving League had meets last weekend, as well, and will follow soon with their scores posted here and at the GSL and CaSL websites.
Perris SkyVenture
The results of the NSL SkyVenture Competition on the July 24 weekend are now available and are posted in the tables below. It was a busy international weekend, and the NSL News provided more detailed information of the competition in Germany last week, while the story of the Texas Skydiving League at Skydive Dallas was posted over the weekend.

A total of 24 teams competed in the AAA Class that weekend, five of these teams in Texas, the remaining 19 teams at three different locations in Germany. The German national 4-way team EADS won the overall AAA Class competition before and after handicap, calculated after four completed rounds.

German DSL team Südwest
EADS is not registered with the Deutsche Sky Liga (DSL) and not eligible for the NSL SkyVenture Competition. The best registered DSL team after four rounds was Südwest with 67.32 SkyVenture points. Südwest consists of Roman Bodländer (Center Outside - 4500 jumps), Ralf Schlacht (Tail - 5000 jumps), Christian Beyer (Point - 3500 jumps), Alexander Simon (Center Inside - 8500 jumps), Klaus Czeschka (Alternate - 8500 jumps) and Volker Stein (Video - 2500 jumps). The team from Schweighofen in the southern part of Germany posted a 12.8 meet average after four rounds.
TSL AAA Class team Rave
Südwest was the best eligible AAA Class team after four rounds and placed ahead of the Texas Skydiving Lague teams. However, SkyVenture has agreed to provide additional prizes if an international team beats the NSL teams on the same meet weekend. This means that Südwest will receive the 30-minute certificate for the first place after four rounds, while the five TSL teams completed two more rounds for the additional 30-minute certificate of the AAA Class.

It was an interesting TSL internal race for the free SkyVenture tunnel time. Mischief was slightly ahead of Rave (65.92 - 65.32) after four rounds. Rave was fortunate that the NSL SkyVenture Competition was not over after these four rounds. The team from Dallas with Jim Walker, Lou Massie, Roland Hicks, Mariann Kramer and Sean Ralls used the remaining two rounds to catch up and take the first place (102.24 - 98.88) after handicap. Rave allowed even the TSL top team of the AAA Class, Dallas Thunder, to score only two more raw points in the last three rounds and finished the six-round competition with a 12.0 average.

TSL AA Class team 4 of a Kind
Four AA Class teams of the Texas Skydiving League competed for a 10-minute SkyVenture certificate. TSL Director Ryan Smith had just handed out a 30-minute SkyVenture certificate to 4 of a Kind before the competition began in Dallas. The little ceremony must have inspired the team from Skydive Spaceland with Jorge S. Alvarez, Kim Murphy, Kirsten Hardmant and Kim Airhart. 4 of a Kind took the first place after handicap once again and registered a new team record score of 10 points in round six of the competition. The 6.7 meet average was also the highest result of the 2004 season for 4 of a Kind. The next TSL meet will begin again with a little award ceremony.
TSL Rookie Class team Funnel U
The A Class was represented only in Europe on the July 24 weekend. The Rookie Class competition included two teams, Funnel U from Texas and the Belly Bombers at the Ranch. Funnel U attended the team's third competition of the 2004 season in Texas and finished with a 4.3 average after four rounds, 3.8 after six rounds. The six points in round one was a new team record, as well. Funnel U consists of Ron Shipp, Jim Ploehn, Laura Dickmyer, Alex Tayem and Scott Sanders. As 4 of a Kind, Funnel U had just received a 10-minute certificate for the inofficial Rookie Class competition at the previous TSL meet weekend. The new certificate makes it a total of 20 SkyVenture minutes for the TSL team.
