Did You Know...

... that Airspeed's comeback became harder every round in a very strong field?

Airspeed debriefing in Bedford
posted Apr 13th, 2010 - The videos of Round 4 at the World Challenge 2010 are up, once again with the Top 11 and in the same order of the final rankings.

It was the second round for the defending triple World Challenge champion and reigning 4-way world champion Arizona Airspeed after the devastating results of Round 2. Airspeed was already with the back to the wall after the second round of the meet.

It was actually a good thing that it happened so early - if there was anything good about it for the defending champions. At least, there was still enough time to crawl back to the top, round by round, and Airspeed had already shown many times before that it is not a big deal to come back from behind if necessary. However, Round 3 had already shown how diffcult this would be. The Top 6 teams were extremely strong at this year's event. It would not be easy for Airspeed to win back those lost points in the remaining eight rounds.

Added a point to the lead in Round 3: XL
Round 3 had already gone by without any redemption for Airspeed, and Round 4 was not different. XL had the highscore in Round 3 (24) and added a point to the distance to Airspeed (23). Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge did the same in Round 4 (26 - 25). Airspeed was now performing and scoring on the same level - but not any higher and better.

It could have been frustrating for the world champions to see how difficult it was to come back from behind this time. Airspeed needed the help of the teams ahead and bring out the best in each round at the same time. However, the other top teams just did not seem to cooperate very well and kept on scoring on the same top level, no matter how well Airspeed performed and how hard the world champions tried. The top field was simply too strong.

It was still not frustrating for the Airspeed members. They knew that this would happen one day, it was only a matter of time. All top teams have the same training tools and knowledge available. Airspeed was prepared to eventually accept a defeat and then come back at the next meet. It was still hard to end up in 5th place...

Sky News camera team at the World Challenge
The World Challenge 2010 also found the interest of the UK media. Even Sky News came out with a camera team and had one of their anchors fly at Bodyflight Bedford. The video of this show can be reviewed by clicking here.

Another camera team put a more event oriented show together, which can be reviewed in the window above. The HUTC (Hot Under The Collar) camera presents teams and competitors from several different angles.

XL member Pete Allum and Team Bodyflight member Sarah Smith-Cannon explain the flying adventures to the general public on camera.

By the way, in the meantime, NSL-TV works on editing the Shamrock Showdown show, which will hopefully be aired very soon in Florida and then by the NSL News on-line.
