Did You Know...

... that NFTO won the re-match with Weembi Unicorns?

4-way Women awards at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022
posted Nov 14th, 2023 - The highlight of the British Indoor Nationals 2023 was probably the reunion of the still reigning outdoor world champions in 4-way Women, NFTO. It was the lineup with Elizabeth Kennedy, who had joined NFTO at the end of the 2022 season, exactly the same one who won the national indoor championship a year ago. Anna Hicks, Vana Parker and Sian Stokes have been training and competing together since 2018.

The NFTO 3-way won their first national 4-way AAA Class title with Catherine Anderson in 2018, and the same lineup followed up with silver medals at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2018 and at the FAI Indoor World Cup a few weeks later.

Kate Lindsley replaced Catherine Anderson in 2019 for the successful defense of the national AAA Class title and two more sets of FAI silver medals, first at the indoor world championship at Weembi Lille, then at the outdoor world cup in Eloy.

Anna Hicks, Vana Parker and Sian Stokes won the British outdoor title again in 2021, this time with Julia Swallow in the lineup, Simon Brentford as always on camera. Catherine Anderson replaced Julia Swallow for the 2022 season, which concluded with NFTO's first outdoor world championship title in 4-way Women.

NFTO - Weembi Unicorns at the British Indoor Open 2023
4-way Women awards at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023
Elizabeth Kennedy trained and competed with NFTO until the 3rd place at the 4th FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship in Slovakia this year, before Vana Parker and Sian Stokes decided to continue with Lucy Davies and Danni Hurt when Anna Hicks and Elizabeth Kennedy both stepped back. Simon Brentford was and still is in his camera slot for NFTO.

The NFTO 2023 lineup had plans only until the national outdoor championship that Apex won this year, with Viserion in 2nd, NFTO in 3rd place. That's when the 2022 lineup began to consider the reunion event at the national indoor championship.

There was not much serious opposition by any British 4-way teams last week, and NFTO defended their indoor title with exactly the same lineup as in December 2022 and a 42-point lead over Anonymous in 2nd place.

However, NFTO had a well known opponent on the top of the leaderboard, who could not win British indoor medals. Guest team Weembi Unicorns with their international lineup of world-class 4-way competitors made their second trip to Great Britain, after attending the last World Challenge in April 2019 .

NFTO - Weembi Unicorns at the Weembi Cup 2023
4-way AAA awards at the Weembi FS Cup 2023
A different Weembi Unicorns lineup (Alessandra De Rango, Clementine Le Bohec, Julien Degen, Michele Silvi) outscored NFTO's 2019 lineup with Kate Lindsley in Bedford (283 - 263). Only Alessandra De Rango and Julien Degen traveled again to Great Britain, this time with Federico Angelotti and Mathieu Quizy in the current lineup, and to a different location.

iFLY Manchester hosted the British indoor championship, where Weembi Unicorns gave NFTO's reunion lineup of 2022 more than enough competition. Both teams completed almost exactly the same number of formations in the 350 seconds of working time (272 - 271). However, the judges detected seven infringements in the Weembi Unicorns ten rounds, while NFTO did not give away one single point, even though the quality of the video captures does not offer much of any clear details.

The two teams also knew each other from the recent Weembi FS Cup 2023 in April, where Weembi Unicorns and NFTO both competed with exactly the same lineups. NFTO won this duel by 26 points half a year ago, and the difference was down to six points after penalties last week in Manchester.

Weembi Unicorns will probably continue this week at the annual Weembinamic event. They have an open account at Weembi Lille, after winning the point-total of the ten rounds last year and still ending up in 2nd place, due to the very different competition format. The NSL News update on 6 December 2022 offered more details.
