posted Apr 4th, 2023 - The first version of Paraclete XP's Summer Classic competition grew out of the Carolina Skydiving League, which was one of the busiest leagues in the NSL 4-way Network at that time.

The Raeford Parachute Center was an early host of the CASL meets, and Paraclete XP lifted the July competition in 2007 to a new level with a $14,000 purse of prize money. The Paraclete XP Money Meet became the prime U.S. event between the Shamrock Showdown and the USPA Nationals in the middle of the outdoor summer season.

The Shamrock Showdown defined the starting point of the outdoor season, and the teams had an opportunity to check their progress a few months later and before they would have to deliver their top performance at the national outdoor championships, the USPA Nationals.

Some of the best U.S. teams traveled to North Carolina and gave the AAA Class leaderboard of the CASL meets a new dimension. Winner Airspeed Odyssey would later become the U.S. 4-way Open Class champion at the USPA Nationals 2007, and the Golden Knights in 2nd place won the bronze medals at Skydive Chicago. Mass Defiance took home $2,000 cash for the in 3rd place finish in Raeford.

The word spread quickly, and a year later the field of 4-way teams at the Paraclete XP Money Meet turned international. Norway's national team in 4-way Women, Fortitudo, and Danish Blaze from Denmark, competed at the event, together with Airspeed Odyssey, who would become the next Airspeed world champions the same year at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2008.

The same three teams had also attended the Shamrock Showdown 2008, and this classical example of meet scheduling and preparation rewarded Airspeed Odyssey with FAI gold medals, Fortitudo with a 4th place in 4-way Women at the world meet, and Danish Blaze with a team record average in Maubeuge in August.

The Paraclete XP Money Meet of 2008 became very special and even more exciting when Raeford Parachute Center and Paraclete XP also joined logistical forces and created an indoor/outdoor combination on the same June weekend. Eight AAA Class teams attended the outdoor competition, and two more teams completed the ten additional indoor rounds. The AAA Class competition was exciting enough at the skydiving center, while it became a 3-point thriller between Airspeed Odyssey, Perris Fury and Golden Knights in Paraclete XP's 16-foot flying chamber.

The Paraclete XP Indoor Championship in February began as an event for the Carolina Skydiving League teams, as well, first time in the same year when the Paraclete XP Money Meet was launched in July 2007. Both events were back in 2008, even though the outdoor competition in July did not include the ten indoor rounds any longer.

The transition of the indoor competition in July to the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship in February began in 2009 when the CASL teams met again in February, and the Paraclete XP Money Meet in July became an indoor competition only. Paraclete XP eventually transitioned the Money Meet to the February date in 2011, where it has taken place ever since as the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship, which is now the official U.S. indoor qualifier.

Paraclete XP then brought back the outdoor event as the Summer Classic in 2017, combined with the Carolina Skydiving League competition, when the Raeford Parachute Center became the Skydive Paraclete XP outdoor facility. The event kept growing and peaked in 2019 before the corona virus crisis brought it to a screeching halt and the next break.

Three years have gone by since the last Paraclete XP Summer Classic in 2019, and the D'Annunzio family is now bringing it back this year on the traditional July date. This comeback re-establishes the original order of the outdoor competition season in the United States: Shamrock Showdown - Summer Classic - USPA Nationals. The first comeback event was successfully completed at Skydive DeLand, the Summer Classic is scheduled for the July 15/16 weekend. The USPA Nationals 2023 will take place at the same location in September.
