Did You Know...

... that Eliana Rodriguez and Tim D'Annunzio were the XP8 alternates?

From 3rd in 2018 to 4th in 2021 to silver in 2022: Qatar Falcons
posted Oct 26th, 2022 - The 8-way competition was concluded first, while Gary Smith, Joey Jones and Solly Williams discussed the last two rounds of the 4-way competition. The 8-way competition was the easiest event to overview, as all five participating teams did not get too close to each other.

The closest distance between two 8-way teams next to each other on this leaderboard was the 12-point difference between MicroClim8 (Great Britain) and Mojo Annecy-Clermont (France). Paraclete XP8 did not give away a round and did not allow the Qatar Falcons to get closer than one point once in Round 4.

The 2nd place for the Falcons will still go into the history books of Formation Skydiving competition, as it was the first time that a team from Qatar won silver medals at a FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving. The Qatar Tigers added a new set of bronze medals to their own collection that began at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020.

Coach Gary Smith had won the first FAI bronze medals for Qatar with the Falcons in Australia 2018, and Jeremie Rollett now turned the silver of 2018 and the 4th place in August last year into the first set of silver medals.

NSL Live Talk with Eliana Rodriguez and Tim D'Annunzio: Round 10 in 8-way
8-way celebrations after Round 10
Paraclete XP8 still won the gold medals 41 points ahead of Qatar Falcons, which was even greater margin than in 4-way Open, where Arizona Airspeed distanced NMP PCH HayaBusa by 33 points. The 41-point difference in 8-way and the clear separation of the other 8-way teams from each other make it easy to read the leaderboard.

There is no need for a combined leaderboard in 8-way, as all teams are posting scores on the same one without any gender separation. The Qatar Falcons were actually the only 8-way team without female team members. Jeana Billings and Michelle Karamon won their second 8-way world championship title, with Eliana Rodriguez, 8-way world champion of 2004, was on stand-by as one of the two official XP8 alternates.

The other XP8 alternate was Tim D'Annunzio, who was watching his son John D'Annunzio win his second 8-way gold medal, as well. The D'Annunzio family has been supporting the U.S. teams generously on their way to the world's top spots in Formation Skydiving competition. Eliana Rodriguez and Tim D'Annunzio both took the time for NSL Live Talk after the take-off for Round 10 and before the last 8-way teams landed right in front of their eyes. That's when the celebrations began and the conversation had to come to its end.
