Did You Know...

... that the Mattoni 4-way family competed in three different teams at the indoor world cup?

First Monaco lineup in 2007
posted Jun 1st, 2022 - The NSL News history of the French Mattoni family began in 2005, when Jeff Ronzevalle and Didier Boignon launched their new 4-way team project, first under Noene Mandelieu, and known since 2007 as the Monaco Parachute Team. They had trained and competed as members of the French national 8-way teams between 1986 and 1992 and won gold medals together at several world cups in that time period.

They decided to start a comeback in 2005 and joined forces with two younger French skydivers, Laurent Hayot and Stephane Mattoni, then began attending 4-way competitions in France. They solicited some support from the sovereign city and micro-state of Monaco and registered under the Monaco Parachute Team since 2007.

Eventually they extended the Monaco team project to their root event, 8-way training and competition, and Monaco Rebootizer Aerial even won the national outdoor championships in 2011 with their first lineup. Thomas Perrin-Gachadoat, Arnaud Mille and Paul "Polo" Grisoni joined forces with the five Monaco 4-way competitors.

Team founder Jeff Ronzevalle and his original Monaco team mate Stephane Mattoni are still training and competing together, 30 years after the end of Jeff Ronzevalle's 8-way career with the French national teams and 17 years after launching the Monaco team.

Jeff Ronzevalle's and Stephane Mattoni's Monaco lineups have changed over the years. Marion Baggio and Arnaud Morey are their current team mates, and Monaco Aerodyne was one of the four 4-way Open Class teams in the French delegation for the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022.

The NSL News introduced the new and current indoor and outdoor lineup on 24 September 2021, after their first competition together. They have attended four meets ever since, including last year's national outdoor championships and the indoor world cup at Airspace Charleroi.

The NSL News has also pointed out in the past that Stephane Mattoni's passion for Formation Skydiving training and competition has been transferred to his two sons Tom and Noe Mattoni. In fact, the preview of the indoor world cup on February 21st explained that the Mattoni 4-way family will compete in three different teams at the indoor world cup.

Father Stephane Mattoni competed with Monaco Aerodyne in 4-way Open, where his son Tom Mattoni won the silver medals behind Arizona Airspeed with the French national 4-way indoor team. The younger son Noe Mattoni won his own silver medal in 4-way Junior.

Tom Mattoni with the French national 4-way indoor team
Monaco Aerodyne, with father Stephane Mattoni, can naturally not keep up any longer with the young 4-way teams of the newest generations. The two 4-way Open Class teams were separated by 25 ranking positions and a total of 140 points (317 - 177).

The French 4-way Junior team posted a 26.0 average for the 8-round AA draw. The same lineup, with Stephane Mattoni's son Noe, had also posted a 16.1 average for a 10-round AAA draw at the French Indoor Nationals 2022 in March.

However, Stephane Mattoni was just as passionate and excited whenever the two teams with his sons were in action at Airspace Charleroi. He was in the front row of the audience with a stop watch at each round, after leaving the flying chamber for his own performance with Monaco Aerodyne.

Stephane and Tom Mattoni will probably soon meet again at a 4-way competition, this time at the national outdoor championships or Coupe de France league events. French national coach Mathieu Bernier has selected Tom Mattoni for the very young new French national outdoor lineup, as the NSL News reported on February 10th. Tom Mattoni will represent France at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022 and try to bring new 4-way medals back to France.
