Did You Know...

... that Lori Connor's iFLY SF Bay team needed a tie-breaker in the AA Class?

Highscores in AAA and AA: Bad Boys
posted Aug 3rd, 2015 - The drama of the Indoor Cloud League's July competition is far from over.

The Bad Boys have posted the highscores for the AAA/AA sequences, and the SportFlight team at the Hurricane Factory is still only in 4th place. At the same time, Katie Woods is feverishly working on the missing SkyVenture Montreal videos, while there is also a missing update from iFLY Orlando after the last Indoor Cloud League event on July 30th.

iFLY Dallas and iFLY Seattle are holding on to their current lead that they may carry over the quickly approaching finish line. Lori Connor's Northern California Skydiving League team at iFLY SF Bay submitted all scores and videos today and could not catch up with the two leaders.

19th point at 33.37 seconds
The iFLY SF Bay team had its own drama in a very positive way. Two lineups took on the AA Class sequence and both ended up with 19-pointers. The race for the internal top spot and the honor of posting the 19-pointer on the ICL leaderboard for July needed a tie-breaking procedure.

Lori Connor saw two options how to deal with the situation if both 19-pointers were standing without any penalties after judging. Both lineups performed five practice rounds and three competition sequences at the NCSL Indoor Cloud League night on July 15th at iFLY SF Bay.

One option was the total score for the three competition sequences by each of the two teams. The first lineup (Mike Deglau, Christina Deglau, Matt Stephens, Volker Haag) scored a total of 137 points. The second team (Julius Frank, Deanna Frank, Morgan Womble, Ian Pedowitz) had 130 points for the same sequences.

19th point at 33.99 seconds
However, the current FAI/IPC rules and regulations do not consider the scoring history at an event and rather add a jump-off round or a different tie-breaking procedure that relates only to the "last common scoring formation in the last completed round":

It is "the fastest time (measured to hundredths of a second) to the last common scoring formation in the last completed round" that determines the winner of the tie-breaker.

The iFLY SF Bay lineup with 137 points total also had the faster time for the first Photon of Block 11 on the 4th page (33.37 second), while the other AA Class lineup completed the same formation at 33.99 seconds. As a result, Mike Deglau, Christina Deglau, Matt Stephens and Volker Haag represent iFLY SF Bay in the AA Class for the July competition.
