Did You Know...

... that France has launched a 4way competition project for children?

Aerokart Senior and Junior project teams ready for action
posted Mar 26th, 2014 - The Sun Path Products NSL News has paid special attention over the years to the teams at indoor meets with children in the lineups.

The latest examples included Kalle Pohjola who won the Rookie Class competition at the World Challenge 2013 with Pro Team Extended from Finland.

The Bisson family from Canada was another topic and received the latest attention with the update from the Canadian Indoor Skydiving Championship 2014 on 22 March 2014.

All news updates had one thing in common: The kids had very impressive flying skills and kept up easily with the adult flyers.

France has made the next step in the meantime and launched a unique project with a program that is directly targeted at complete 4way lineups with only kids in 4way competition.

Aerokart's Junior team in action
French national 4way coach Marin Ferre, whose career story was recently covered with the story on 24 February 2014, also updated the Sun Path Products NSL News with information of this kids program, called AK’DEMIE, which runs at Aerokart in Paris.

He said that he is proud to be a part of this new step in the evolution of the sport after his young 4way teams competed at the Aerokart Indoor Championship 2014, and he provided more details of the project.

Aerokart decided Last summer to launch and sponsor the AK’DEMIE project.

Goal was to build two 4way teams with only children who would become strong enough to compete in 2014 and 2015.

Françoise Simons-Hamouchi, Aerokart Deep Blue world champion in the female 4way category in 2010, organizes the project, while her husband William Hamouchi and Marin Ferre have been coaching the teams.

Aerokart's Senior team lineup
The AK’DEMIE project began with an open national try-out at the end of August 2013 where ten kids were selected for the program. The plan included training on one weekend every month until the final goal, the World Challenge in April 2015.

Marin Ferre said that some of the kids had only a few minutes of flying experience, while others could already fly nicely on their bellies with an instructor and stand up on the net. However, none of them had ever tried any 4way flying before.

The coaches had to develop their individual skills until they could be put safely together in the tunnel chamber and learn the basics of 4way with the AA Class dive pool program.

William Hamouchi and Marin Ferre eventually selected the two teams after a few weekends of training. There was the "younger" team AK’DEMIE with an average age of eight years, and the "older" AK’DEMIE lineup with an average age of 12 years. Both teams also have an alternate.

Internal kids race at the Aerokart Indoor Championship 2014
Marin Ferre said that it took the kids less than six hours of flying time until they were able to perform random formations and blocks in the Aerokart tunnel.

The coaches still did not know about the scoring potential for a 35-second working time and decided to register the teams for this year's Aerokart Indoor Championship at the beginning of March.

At the same time, the owners of Flyzone Lézignan, the second windtunnel in France, had three of their kids flying regularly in their "family tunnel" for a while.

They also recruited a 4th flyer of the same age in order to build their own well trained 4way junior team.

Result was an indoor competition at Aerokart with three junior teams who had their own internal friendly race in the AA Class.

Marin Ferre said that the older team was the stronger one this time "as it is in the school yard". However, he thinks that it could be another story at the next meet...
