Did You Know...

... that Golden Knights member Laura Dickmeyer is the new CASL Director?

CASL Director Andy Honigbaum in 2011
posted Jun 24th, 2012 - The second meet of the Carolina Skydiving League 2012 season brought another change in the leadership for one of the longest standing leagues in the country.

Dan Winkelstein had handed over the CASL reigns to Andy Honigbaum and Jan Lane for the 2011 season after his four years of leadership. Andy Honigbaum and Jan Lane mastered their first year together, while they opened their own skydiving operation in the Carolinas at the same time. They continued managing the 2012 season opener and then got too busy for the additional job.

There was no leadership gap though, as Golden Knights member Laura Dickmeyer announced at the beginning of the month that she will help out and become the new CASL Director:

"First off, this is my first official email as the CASL Director. I want to thank Andy and Jan for keeping the league running and improving the past few years. And for answering all my little questions!"

She confirmed the 2012 schedule that Andy Honigbaum and Jan Lane had put together for the 2012 season and provided additional information for the upcoming event, which took place this weekend at Triangle Skydiving Center: "The last meet ran pretty late and the award ceremony was not held that evening. To make up for this, we will be announcing and handing out medals for Meet 1 and 2 at the conclusion of jumping on 23 June. The award ceremony will occur as soon as the last jumps are scored and posted."

Finally she encouraged CASL teams and competitors to use the available communication tools more frequently to be up to date: "I also want everyone to check out our Facebook Page and like it at https://www.facebook.com/CaSLeague. This will keep you in the loop on any and all updates. If you are coming to the next meet, give me a heads up either via email or on Facebook. I already have the RSVP from the Airheads and Team SkullCrusherz. Hope to see everyone soon!"

The Skull Crusherz did not make it to the meet this time, however, the three other Rookie Class teams of the first 2012 meet came back for another CASL showdown in this category, and the outcome was completely different. Blame Game went from 3rd to 1st place (3.8 - 6.5) and left the winner of the May meet, Air Heads, far behind (5.5 - 3.5) this time. No Idea lost the 2nd place to Air Heads.

Laura Dickmeyer did not compete herself this time. Her team had posted an 18.0 average at the CASL season opener, which was a new team best. The female lineup of the Golden Knights will come back for the July meet.

Former CASL Director Dan Winkelstein took the 1st place in the AA Class competition with a new lineup, Bad Touch, even though Carolina Dynamic scored slightly higher than in May. The Carolina Skydiving League goes back to Raeford for the July meet. This is Laura Dickmeyer's Golden Knights profile:

Laura Dickmeyer
"Staff Sergeant Laura Dickmeyer is an Intelligence Specialist, serving as a competition parachutist with the Women’s Competition Team. Laura joined the Army to gain a sense of National Service with the eventual intent of becoming a Golden Knight. After enlisting into the Army in April of 2005, Dickmeyer completed Basic Training at Ft Leonardwood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training schools at Ft Huachuca, Arizona. After completion of Airborne School at Ft Benning, Georgia she was then assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group A at Ft Bragg, North Carolina.

With over 650 jumps to her credit having started in November of 2002, Dickmeyer chose to attend the Golden Knight Assessment and Selection Program in 2008. This program is used by the Knights to assess skydivers’ skills and evaluate their team working abilities. Once she proved herself to be an asset to the Knights she was ‘knighted’ and is spending her first year in continued training with the Gold Demonstration Team.

Dickmeyer has been to Afghanistan twice with the 3rd Special Forces Group. She has earned the Bronze Star, Army Commendation, and Army Achievement Medals along the way. In 2010 she and her team won a Gold Medal in formation skydiving at the Military World meet known as CISM. Dickmeyer has also completed an Associates of Arts degree from the University of Maryland. Now with over 2,000 jumps she still enjoys jumping on the side as a Tandem, Accelerated Free Fall Instructor and coach."
