Did You Know...

... that the Texas Skydiving League teams are now on NSL-TV?

posted Aug 4th, 2004 - The NSL-TV coverage continues with brand-new footage from Texas. It is a great pleasure for the NSL-TV to introduce each Texas Skydiving League team that competed at the last TSL competition on July 24 at Skydive Dallas.

The NSL News story of July 31, provided by the Texas Skydiving League reporter Sherry Dodson, mentioned already that the TSL used a new computerized TSL judging system:
TSL Director Ryan Smith
"Always a cutting edge league, the TSL held their first all electronically judged meet. As far as we know this has only been done once before, a couple of years ago at a meet in Arizona. The TSL videographers downloaded their team’s jumps directly to a state of the art video editing system, then the files were remotely accessed by the judges via another computer upstairs at Skydive Dallas. According to Sherry Schrimsher, the efficiency of this system is just “fabulous”.

The NSL News forwarded this exciting information to the NSL-TV studio (easy to do in the most efficient one-person operation at the NSL headquarters...) hoping that the new TSL computer system would make it much easier to get TSL competition jumps on NSL-TV. The according request was e-mailed to TSL Director Ryan Smith who developed the new system. Smith's response did not come by e-mail - it came by UPS just a few days later and in form of a DVD.

Not only TSL Chief Judge Sherry Schrimsher is now impressed with the efficiency of the TSL system. The NSL headquarters received this DVD ready to apply for the user. All competition jumps of this TSL meet were stored on single files, which were easy to identify. The DVD came in an envelope that provided the team numbers and names, according to the file names. There was nothing left to do except inserting the DVD into the computer and uploading the files to the Skyleague.com server, plus the creation of some fancy images for this story.

The NSL headquarters appreciates this extraordinary service and sends thankful greetings to TSL Director Ryan Smith. By the way, Smith is team member of Dallas Thunder, currently one of the best AAA Class teams in the country. He can be found in Thunder's Center Outside position. It is also well worth for the NSL audience to follow all the links of his team deeply into the heart of Texas team skydiving. The Dallas Thunder team project has the potential to build a great future for Formation Skydiving competition at Skydive Dallas. Enjoy the TSL show on NSL-TV.
