NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that the NSL Championship at SkyQuest was like a Rhythm camp?

Steve Lefkowitz with SDC Tempo
posted Nov 25th, 2011 - The NSL Championship 2011, traditionally the 4way part of SkyQuest Florida, was just as much bothered by the weather as BJ Worth's Kaleidoscope Dives. However, SkyQuest participants in both events made the best out of it, completed as many jumps as possible and enjoyed the exciting international atmosphere anyway.

The 4way event turned out to be almost like an SDC Rhythm XP camp. The three remaining team members, JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz and Thiago Gomes, have transitioned to their winter headquarters in Sebastian and came to DeLand to support the event. Steve Lefkowitz was the player coach for another team from Skydive Chicago, SDC Tempo, who tried to win the NSL A Class gold medals and trophy.

JaNette Lefkowitz came together with husband Steve and took on multiple functions as soon as she arrived. She judged the 4way competition jumps and filled an open slot for the Teiwaz North, aka Penguins, on Saturday. The Penguins could not continue on Sunday, and Teiwaz South had an open slot later on Sunday, as well, when Trevor Cedar had to resume his work. JaNette Lefkowitz then filled his Tail slot.

All present 4way teams benefitted from the visit of the Rhythm members. JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz did not only help their own teams, Steve his Tempo lineup and JaNette the two Teiwaz lineups. Both provided everybody with tips and hints whenever they had a few minutes to spare. The weather situation allowed them to provide a lot of information...

Rhythm Tail Thiago Gomes was at the event site too. However, he decided to enjoy his time off and was just observing the many different activities of SkyQuest 2011. His team, including leaving Center Inside Rob Radez, has a long trip ahead, as SDC Rhythm XP will compete at the upcoming 3rd Dubai Championship 2011.

The NSL News camera also captured one of the candidates for the Rhythm tryout on December 16th in close proximity with the Rhythm members. Former Satori Point Katie Woods, who competed with Throw Down at the USPA Nationals 2011, now lives and works in DeLand. She will soon travel to Paraclete XP and then fly with Rhythm.

Steve Lefkowitz guided SDC Tempo to the second place in the A Class competition. The visiting Carolina Fly Girls took advantage of the two fastest sequences in the six rounds that were completed by both teams. Tempo won the other four rounds by one point, but the energetic ladies from Chester in South Carolina were too far ahead. Tempo's exit funnel in Round 3, which was one of the fast ones, threw the MWSL team five points behind.

There was actually a third team registered for the A Class competition. Team Zunday from Skydive City in Zephyrhills had planned to defend the Florida home turf after using the iFLY Orlando FSL Tunnel Kicker events for the meet preparations. Zunday did not get in the air on Friday or Saturday and had to travel back on Sunday when the other 4way teams began to complete as many rounds as possible.

The Carolina Fly Girls are the proud A Class champions of 2011 and plan to continue with their fun 4way project. They will defend their A Class title in 2012 and present the A Class trophy in their clubhouse in Chester in the meantime.
