Did You Know...

... that three Monaco team members beat even the Norgies in time together?

DeLand Norgies at the Shamrock Showdown 2011
posted Mar 22nd, 2011 - The Shamrock Showdown 2011 is over, and the NSL News begins with the preparations for the next big event, the World Challenge 2011 at Bodyflight Bedford.

Not only the ten traveling teams that the NSL News mentioned in the story on 14 March 2011 connect both events. There is another story that relates more indirectly.

The story on 4 March 2011 announced that the DeLand Norgies would compete at the Shamrock Showdown 2011 and provided some information of the team's history. The NSL News will get back to the Norgies and the impressive performance in DeLand later. However, a short conversation with the team members during the award ceremony brought back memories of the very beginnings of the Norgies in 1996, or even earlier in 1994 in the Norwegian 8-way lineup.

French team mates in 1990 and 1991
There is no other team on the planet that still competes with the same lineup after 15 years. However, there is one team that is very close to even beat the Norgies as of time together in the sport, and this team will once again compete at the World Challenge 2011.

The NSL News had briefly covered the history of two Monaco Aerial members with the story on 23 July 2010. A more comprehensive review of Didier Boignon's and Jeff Ronzevalle's competition career was posted by the NSL News on 18 May 2007.

Didier Boignon and Jeff Ronzevalle both trained and competed together with the French national 8-way teams between 1986 and 1992 and won gold medals together at several world cups in that time period. The DeLand Norgies had not even started their team career by then. Didier Boignon and Jeff Ronzevalle launched the Monaco Aerial Parachute Team project when they decided to become more active again and have trained and competed ever since, including the World Challenges in the past years, the meets of the Coupe de France and even the Dubai Championship 2011.

With Julien DeSantos at the World Challenge 2010
Stephane Mattoni has been Didier Boignon's and Jeff Ronzevalle's team mate since Monaco Aerial was founded in 2002. However, the 3-way has had difficulties to complete the lineup when Laurent Hayot left the team. Julien Losantos, French 4-way world champion of 2003, filled the slot at the World Challenge 2010, and the video shows the 20.0 average performance last year at Bodyflight Bedford.

Jeff Ronzevalle now informed the NSL News that his team has changed the name to Monaco Rebootizer Aerial and that the new lineup is complete. The new team member makes the Monaco story even more interesting.

Franck Vazille has taken the open Tail slot, and he goes far back in the history of Formation Skydiving competition, as well.

With new member Frank Vazille in Dubai 2011
Franck Vazille is Didier Boignon's and Jeff Ronzevalle's 8-way team mate of the early 90's. Just as his former team mates he had stopped with Formation Skydiving competition for a few years, although he was still jumping with his friends. Jeff Ronzevalle said that they finally convinced him to accept the slot.

Franck Vazille is 44 years of age and has a total of approx. 8,000 jumps. He is married, has three children and lives in St Etienne, in the middle of France. He has won three 8-way silver medals for France at the World Meets in 1991, 1993 and 1995, plus gold medals at the World Cups in 1992, 1994 and 1996. The Dubai Championship 2011 was the first competition for the new lineup after six training jumps and one hour of windtunnel training.

Monaco, the second smallest country in the world by size, now has its own national team for the first time in history and is officially represented by the former French national competitors.

Jeff Ronzevalle is excited to move on from here and looks forward to the World Challenge 2011, the team's second meet this year: "Our team of Oldies but Goodies is still on the competition circuit. Once a competitor always a competitor..."
