Did You Know...

... that TurBu 2.0 had a colorful lineup at the Shamrock Showdown?

Impressive scoring progression: Carolina Turbo XP
posted May 6th, 2016 - The aftermath of the Shamrock Showdown 2016 was not complete when the World Challenge 2016 began to take most of the Sun Path Products NSL News attention at the end of March.

The Shamrock Showdown has always attracted high-profile pick-up teams who use the opportunity to compete side by side with the best teams in the world. This time, Nick Grillet, James Klinge, Martin Lemay and Ben Liston joined forces with the TurBu 2.0 lineup.

Nick Grillet was a member of Carolina Turbo XP in 2014 and 2015 (Andrew Happick, Doug Barron, Joey Freeman). Turbo was on a steep progression curve ever since the team was founded, and the 2014/2015 lineup was on the way to challenge first SDC Rhythm XP and then Arizona Airspeed for the U.S. top spot in the 4-way Open Class very soon. The aftermath of the Shamrock Showdown 2016 was not complete when the World Challenge 2016 began to take most of the Sun Path Products NSL News attention at the end of March.

The situation changed for Nick Grillet and Joey Freeman when Andrew Happick and Doug Barron accepted an invitation to join SDC Rhythm XP, who needed two new members when Mikhail Markine left for Arizona Airspeed and Christy Frikken did not continue at the end of last year.

It was another disappointing situation for Nick Grillet after moving to Eloy years ago to become Airspeed's alternate and then inherit a slot in the active lineup, which never materialized. He joined Carolina Turbo XP instead when Joey Coffineau's slot became available, and the Turbo progression was impressive.

At the Shamrock Showdown, Nick Grillet met several team members who he has been training and/or competing with since 2011. Thomas Hughes and Niklas Hemlin won clearly with Arizona Airspeed, while Andrew Happick and Doug Barron attended their second meet for SDC Rhythm XP, after the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2016.

TurBu 2.0 could not seriously threaten the well trained top teams in the small high-profile Shamrock field. However, the pickup team managed to tie the Rhythm scores in three of the ten rounds.

The TurBu 2.0 members were not completely new to each other. Nick Grillet and Evolution's current FAI bronze medalist Martin Lemay competed together for the pickup team USA CAN in 2013 (Brian Johnson, Ari Perelman). Nick Grillet and Ben

Liston have competed together at several indoor meets in New Hampshire.

James Klinge and Ben Liston competed together for DNR at the USPA Nationals in 2012, 2013 and 2014. There is no doubt that the TurBu 2.0 members will appear again on other leaderboards this year, as well, after the 18.3 outdoor average at the Shamrock Showdown. The question is only in which teams, with the exception of Martin Lemay, who will surely continue with Evolution...
