Did You Know...

... that the original Perris Fury lineup has a reunion at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship?

French 8-way team in action at Paraclete
posted Feb 27th, 2016 - The next and upcoming major event is the annual Paraclete XP Indoor Championship next weekend in Raeford.

The 4-way event will feature mainly US teams, while the 8-way competition brings seven lineups from France and the Qatar Falcons to Raeford. Paraclete XP's 16-foot chamber accommodated the first 8-way indoor competitions in history years ago. Martial Ferre and Damien Sorlin, both former French 8-way world champions, have been bringing French 8-way teams to Paraclete year by year. Their lineups have recently included 8-way competitors from other countries, too.

The 4-way competition features a very special reunion this year. The team that still owns the unofficial indoor world record for a single round, Perris Fury, comes back for the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2016 with the original lineup.

Original Perris Fury lineup in 2006
Christy Frikken, Josh Hall, Chris Farina and Uli Stuwe began their 4-way career with this lineup in 2006 and became quickly the strongest U.S. 4-way team behind Arizona Airspeed. Perris Fury had made it to the top level in 2008 when they challenged Airspeed seriously for the first time at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship (296 - 298), with Thomas Hughes in the lineup for the meet.

The Airspeed challenge and the pursuit of the U.S. top spot would continue for several years, and it included a 1st place over a modified Airspeed lineup at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2009 (298 - 289).

The Perris Fury highlight may have been the World Challenge 2010, where the original lineup outscored (298 - 296) the same Airspeed Odyssey lineup that would compete for the U.S.A. later the same year at the World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk. The World Challenge 2010 was also the meet where Fury posted the 66-pointer in Round 2 (J,M,E,D,L) which is still the unofficial indoor world record.

66-pointer world record at the World Challenge 2010
It was a great start into the 2010 season and gave hope that this could become the year when Perris Fury would finally catch up with Airspeed and compete for the gold medals at the USPA Nationals. It did not happen, and Fury ended up once again in 2nd place, 14 points behind Airspeed's Odyssey lineup at its last meet.

Arizona Airspeed had only Mark Kirkby coming back for the 2011 season and the next 2-year cycle. The 2011 season could have been an even better opportunity for Perris Fury to take the U.S. top spot. However, original Fury member Josh Hall joined Mark Kirkby's new Airspeed lineup (Niklas Hemlin, Thomas Hughes) to win gold at the Mondial Dubai 2012.

Perris Fury tried to continue for another year with Todd Hawkins and was finished at the end of the 2011 season.

Last meet with the original lineup: USPA Nationals 2010
Chris Farina joined SDC Rhythm XP in 2012, and Josh Hall stepped back after winning the FAI gold medals in 2012. Christy Frikken took Chris Farina's Inside Center slot with Rhythm in 2013, when he accepted an Airspeed slot. She continued with the pursuit of the Airspeed top spot for another three years, first with Thiago Gomes, JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz, then with Mikhail Markine in the Tail slot.

Uli Stuwe did not commit to any other top teams after the Perris Fury experience and joined a lineup for a meet here and there.

None of the original Fury members has a serious team commitment for this year so far, and they decided to organize a reunion at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship next weekend. SDC Rhythm XP and the Golden Knights, both registered for the same indoor competition, will have to at their best to keep up with Fury...
