Did You Know...
... that that Black Majick is back in the World Challenge A Class with the same lineup?

3rd place for Black Majick in 2011
The team name Black Majick appeared on the NSL leaderboard for the first time at the World Challenge 2011
Bodyflight Bedford's owner Paul Mayer had decided to participate by himself in the event that he had launched in 2006. However, as a passionate backflyer, he did not really have a home category. The World Challenge included Freeflying from the beginning, which was not his real territory.
He discussed the situation with Joey Jones, probably over a few drinks, and came up with the plan to simply join the traditional Rookie Class competition. Along with the plan came the team name, which reminds on Joey Jones' history as a 4way world champion in 2004 with DeLand Magic.

Challenging creeping for Black Majick
Paul Mayer and Joey Jones recruited Tristan Hampson and Rob Silver for the first Black Majick competition in 2011. Black Majick did well with the ten Rookie Class sequences and earned a very respectable 3rd place with an 11.7 average.
The Black Majick members had more than enough fun in 2011 to make plans for the World Challenge 2012, as well. They did not come back in the Rookie Class though. Joey Jones, as an eager competitor, did not have to twist Paul Mayer's arm much to have Black Majick sign up for the A Class competition.
The A Class dive pool includes eight of the 22 blocks and requires a very different skill level and training - especially when flying upside down. The rules and dive pool are not taylored to match the event, as it is in Freeflying, VFS 4way and Dynamic 4way.

Black Majick lineup of 2012 - 2014
Paul Mayer, Joey Jones and Tristan Hampson came back with Jay Richardson to take on the A Class dive pool in 2012. It was also a larger field of teams in the A Class, compared to the Rookie Class competition in 2011.
Black Majick's 12.0 average beat the team's 11.7 with only random formations in 2011 and was very impressive. However, it was only good enough for the 7th place of nine A Class teams.
It is hard to imagine, literally, for a bellyflyer how a team could perform the eight blocks and the sequences upside down. Black Majick did not win the A Class competition, but they had surely made the point that it is possible to do it.

Upside down flying at the World Challenge 2013
Showing that it can be done was not all for Joey Jones' and Paul Mayer's team. They also had a lot of fun, together with the audience, and decided once again to come back a year later. This time, it was exactly the same lineup that competed in the A Class of 2013.
It was an even tougher deal for Black Majick to be competitive, with a new record participation of 16 teams in this category last year. The overall average was significantly higher, and Black Majick's 11.2 brought the 13th place of 16 teams.
However, Black Majick will be back this year, again with the same lineup of the past two years. The A Class competition will be just as challenging as last year, with 14 teams registered early. There is no doubt that Black Majick wants to beat the team's previous averages and climb up the leaderboard. They have shown that it is possible to master the A Class dive pool upside down. Now it's about the scores...
