Did You Know...

... that the CanAm meet included a lot of waiting time?

CanAm Skydiving League
posted Jun 21st, 2005 - The first meet of the 2005 CanAm season was beset by the same conditions that many of the previous meets had also suffered: Low, solid clouds.

Three AAA Class teams patiently waited for the weather to clear. Two veterans of the CanAm league, Team Go (Bob Semmens, Rob Murray, Randy Wurzburger, Robert Bilinsky and Adam Grainger on video) and Vertical Descent (Rob Stipsits, Ellen Komejin, Ahmed Kolb, Mike Pitt and Brad Vale on video) were present. The third team was Evolution (Martin Lemay, Vincent Lemay, Michel Lemay, Francois Pigeon and Peter Toutoudakis on video) who made the 7-hour trek from Parachutisme Nouvel Air in Farnham, Quebec, to Skydive Burnaby in Southern Ontario. Vertical Descent has made the step up to the AAA Class after competing in the AA Class last season.

After waiting from 9:00 am, it looked like the cloud cover might break up and the three teams managed to get in the air for round one at 3:00 pm. Evolution scored 20 points, Team Go had a 12 and Vertical Descent a score of 8 points. Unfortunately, the break up of clouds that everyone was hoping for did not happen for the rest of the afternoon. An hour before sunset, there was some clearing and Evolution managed to get two more rounds in. The clouds refused to leave on Sunday, and no jumps were made.

Once again, quality judging was provided by league co-director Al Altendorfer.

TASC (Therapy and Alternatives for Special Children) was fund raising at Skydive Burnaby over the weekend. This charitable organization provides, among other things, summer camps for special needs children and their families and has quite a history with Skydive Burnaby. With agreement from all teams and the CanAm league, all registration fees were donated to TASC.

Better weather is guaranteed for the next CanAm meet on July 16-17 at Frontier Skydivers...
