Ready for Round 1: Teiwaz and SDC Accelerando
posted Nov 26th, 2013 - The 4way part of SkyQuest 2013 brought together the teams that could not get enough of 4way competition before the year is over.

It was clear that the 4way teams would not set world records, as the Kaleidoscope Divers did with their 110way 2-point sequential. However, the competition was at least as exciting as it was to follow the bigways on their pursuit of world records.

The duel between SDC Accelerando and Teiwaz in the AA Class may have featured a unique leaderboard situation. Both teams tied their scores in six of the ten rounds, five of them consecutively. In fact, it was even closer than that, as both teams also completed the same number of points in working time in Round 2. Accelerando would have matched Teiwaz without the 3-point deduction for a total of even seven consecutively tied rounds. Round 2 eventually turned out to be the decisive point of the AA Class competition, as both teams also tied the total number of points in the last three rounds. What a race...

Winner in 2012: DeLand Higgs Boson
The situation was exciting before the competition had even started. Once again, a team from the Midwest Skydiving League challenged the teams from Florida on their home turf, and it was up to Teiwaz this time to defend the territory. DeLand Higgs Boson had managed to fend off the Midwest challenge by SDC Force and SDC Flow last year.

SDC Rhythm XP members JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz visited DeLand before their upcoming trip to Dubai, and they also brought their new team videographer Thad Parker who was filming SDC Accelerando and got some additional competition practice with his new team before the big job in Dubai.

JaNette Lefkowitz competed with SDC Accelerando, while Steve Lefkowitz was helping all teams with engineering and coaching. Accelerando finished with the team's highest meet average of the 7-meet 2013 season, and the NSL Shugar Cup still stays in DeLand.

Teiwaz lineup at SkyQuest 2013
Peter Eng was a part of last year's MWSL challenge in the A Class competition of SkyQuest 2012. His team SDC Flow had posted a 7.7 average in this category. Now he came back in the Accelerando lineup and finished with an 8.8 average in the AA Class, three points short of taking the NSL Shugar Cup home to Skydive Chiacgo.

Accelerando's lineup included another member who might have been even more eager to win in DeLand, as he was the defending champion. Earl Coggin won last year's competition with DeLand Higgs Boson in the A Class and wanted to keep possession of the precious trophy.

However, there was another Higgs Boson member who had different plans. Joel Kmetz had signed up for the Teiwaz lineup, and the two team mates of 2012 now went through the 10-round thriller in opposite teams. Joel Kmetz won with the help of two Teiwaz members of the 2012 lineup (Bob Schindler, Ed Ganley) and a few Teiwaz ringers who filled in round by round. The NSL Shugar Cup stays in DeLand for another year.
