posted Feb 5th, 2013 - The 2013 season of the virtual indoor competition between the Florida Skydiving League at iFLY Orlando and the Northwest Skydiving League at iFLY Seattle had its first monthly duel in January, and Florida has taken the 1 - 0 lead. It was the closest competition between the two groups so far. In fact, it could not be any closer, as Florida won by one single point.

The friendly indoor competition project was launched in July last year, and the Northwest Skydiving League won the very first event. Each group has the whole month to practice the six sequences and post the best videos with the highest scores. The FSL and NWSL teams and competitors completed five meets in 2012, and Florida won with 3 - 2 for the whole year.

The month of January brought the first event of the new year, and the NWSL group was ahead after posting the first videos and scores. Florida then came back with new videos and improved the scores before the final January deadline.

Deb Correia is organizing the events at iFLY Seattle. She has brought back the NWSL 4way community with indoor and outdoor activities last year. She was also in the player coaches lineup who scored for the NWSL in the AAA and AA Class competition, together with David Zhang, Carolyn Chow and Dave Correia. Vasiliy Boulytchev was also a player coach for the A Class lineup.

Deb Correia and Dave Correia had Bill Selig and Wilson Ma in the Rookie A and Rookie AA Class lineup for the two different sequences. Monika Brunnenkant, Kelli Alspach and Ron Lewis were guided by Carolyn Chow for the Rookie AAA Class competition. Vasiliy Boulytchev was the player coach for Nicolas Inzerella, Jay Alspach and Steve Platt in the A Class.

The eight NWSL participants and five player coaches combined in different lineups for the six sequences. The NWSL group won three of the six categories, two of them by one single point.

The biggest differences were in the Rookie AAA and Rookie A Class. Florida won the Rookie AAA Class by seven points, and the NWSL lineup outscored the FSL Rookie A Class lineup by seven points, as well. The scores in the AAA Class and the 2-point advantage for Florida in this category was eventually the tie breaker.

Brian Johnson, who competed with USA CAN last weekend at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2013 and will join the XL lineup once again at the World Challenge 2013, provided his skills and experiences as one of the FSL player coaches at iFLY Orlando. He was in the high-scoring Rookie AAA Class lineup and also scored in the AAA/Open Class, together with Ari Perelman, Robert Chromy and Kurt Gaebel.

FSL head coach Ari Perelman was Brian Johnson's USA CAN team mate last weekend at Paraclete XP and had also won four categories at the SV New Hampshire 2013 indoor competition in January.

The Florida Skydiving League had eight different lineups at iFLY Orlando who scored for their group in January. Player coaches Ari Perelman and Brian Johnson competed with Yvonne Saa and James Hall in the AA Class. Brian Johnson also had three Zunday members (Keith Murray, Sebastian Jimenez, Gary Fox) in his A Class lineup.

Robert Chromy and Kurt Gaebel performed the Rookie AAA Class sequence with Bonnie Young and Steve Hubbard. They were outscored by Brian Johnson's lineup in the same category (Jim Prochaska, Steve Hubbard, Joel Kmetz).

The FSL team had an internal competition in the Rookie AA Class, as well. Robert Chromy had Matt Hillson, Grant Underland and Rebecca Kristof in his lineup and was outscored by one single point. Ari Perelman, with Noelle Mason, Robert Harris and Mikaela Fernandez in his lineup, posted the 15 points for Florida in this category. The FSL Rookie A Class team with Kurt Gaebel, Craig Sagalow and Rob Wistrom added the 8-pointer. 19 participants and the four player coaches contributed to the total of 94 points for Florida.
