Did You Know...

... that NSL-TV features Rounds 9 and 10 of the Top 6 teams in Menzelinsk?

Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge and Arizona Airspeed after landing from Round 10
posted Oct 2nd, 2010 - The competition videos of Round 9 and Round 10 of the Top 6 teams at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 have now been uploaded and complete the NSL-TV review of this part of the leaderboard.

The videos bring back memories of the incredibly dramatic finish in Menzelinsk. The NSL News reported the grande finale of the 4-way Open Class competition live from Menzelinsk with the story on 5 August 2010. This story also includes a video with scenes of the top teams landing from their Round 10.

Arizona Airspeed had just eliminated Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge's 2-point lead step by step in Round 7 and Round 8. Both teams tied their scores in Round 9, Airspeed after a 2-point deduction. Round 10 would now be a real jump-off situation for the gold medals.

Happy with performance in Round 10: Arizona Airspeed
Then came Round 10, and the French national team delivered a performance that was simply stunning. Airspeed's Craig Girard said that this was the best 4-way jump that he had ever seen. He was not the only one who was so impressed.

The French 26-pointer was the highscore for the round and won the meet. This still doesn't give the performance enough credit. Airspeed had a great round, as all team members confirmed right after the jump.

It was unthinkable that any team would complete three more formations within working time, including the complete Block 16 (Compressed Accordeon - Box). Airspeed knew that Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge had the best technique for Block 22 (T - Chinese T). However, it did not seem possible to save enough time for three additional points in time with this one block. But it happened, and it happened at the right time - from the French perspective...

Sole highscore in Round 9: Russia's Sky Panthers
The new videos also features the Russian Sky Panthers with the highscore for Round 9. It was the only time in the whole competition that any other team besides Airspeed and France had a sole highscore for a round.

The Sky Panthers had previously tied the French 56-pointer world record in Round 3 and Airspeed's 23-pointer in Round 7. The 41-pointer in Round 9 was the first sole highscore for the Russian bronze medalist and secured the 3rd place.

NMP-PCH Hayabusa lost two points in Round 9 and another two points in Round 10 and ended up 11 points behind the Sky Panthers in 4th place. Canada's LeMay family team Evolution gave up the last two rounds to Sinapsi after three point deductions in Round 9 and another one in Round 10. It was still too late for the Italian team, and Canada won the 5th place by four points.
