posted Aug 5th, 2005 - The 4th meet of the Carolina Skydiving League 2005 season at Raeford, NC, looked like another weather-endangered event. Low ceilings hung over the DZ all morning until the staff at Raeford sent a Cessna up to probe the ceilings. The meet began at 11:00 AM, and all but two teams completed five rounds before the rain began in the afternoon.

During the weather hold, Tim D’Annunzio of Paraclete Armor and Equipment, a CASL sponsor, conducted an auction to benefit Liz, a Raeford packer injured in a motorcycle accident. Skycat Equipment donated two Bonehead helmets, a PD Sabre II 135 canopy, two PD Reserves, two Neptune audibles, a Mirage container and a $1,000 store credit. The auction and donations collected totaled more than $6,000!

Skycat Equipment also donated a check of $2,500 to Fox Force 4 for Jump for the Cause. Chris Spence of RoamingDZ.com and Lisa Smith came from Georgia to donate the $1,500 that were raised at the Dublin Boogie to Fox Force 4 for Jump for the Cause. Fox Force 4 will participate in the Flying Angels program at JFTC in memory of Philonese Alford in acknowledgement of the donation.

Eleven teams registered for the competition, one team competed in the AAA Class, seven teams in the AA/Intermediate Class and three teams in the Rookie Class. With four rounds completed, the medals were awarded Saturday night to the following teams:

Rookies Class: 1st place to Raeford Skycats with a 10.0 average, 2nd place to Double A with a 5.5 average, 3rd place to Raeford School Boys with a 2.8 average. The Raeford School Boys consisted of three members who finished the AFF program in Raeford this year and one of their instructors, Tony Thacker.

Intermediate Class: 1st Place to Carolina Ice with a 13.0 average, 2nd Place to Fox Force 4 with a 10.8 average, 3rd place to Rayford Fury with a 9.0 average. Advanced Class: 1st Place to Team Paraclete with a 14.7 average.

Carolina Ice of the AA/Intermediate Class was rewarded as the CASL Meet Champion. The award for the best video and $100, sponsored by Rigging Solutions of Chester SC, went to Jake Conrad. Thanks to the owners and staff of Raeford for hosting another great meet for the CaSL.
