Did You Know...

... that the Northwest Skydiving League completed the 2016 season last weekend?

Last Mondial 2016 Formation Skydiving awards ceremony
posted Sep 17th, 2016 - The completion of the Mondial 2016 allows the Sun Path Products NSL News to catch up with other events that have taken place while the best teams in the Formation Skydiving world competed at Skydive Chicago.

The aftermath of the event will still offer plenty of information and stories, including the competition videos. However, the first break brings the review of the previous meet weekend, where 4-way teams of three different leagues (Midwest, Northwest, Southern California) posted their scores on the same leaderboard.

The leaderboard of the September 10 weekend was the last one before the Mondial 2016 took all the attention and created four new leaderboards, even though three events (4-way Open, 4-way Women, 8-way) used the same numbers and letters for the competition draw.

Southern California meet in Perris
SDMW Next of the Midwest Skydiving League posted a new team record average and won the AAA Class competition between the six teams from Southern California and Midwest. The USPA Intermediate Class (AA) champion of 2015 has become a top contender for this year's Advanced Class competition in the team's first year applying the whole FAI dive pool (AAA).

Even the strong Zulu lineup, with player coach Mark Kirkby, multiple former Airspeed world champion in 4-way and 8-way, could not offer enough opposition in Southern California, despite winning one of the first six rounds and tying another one.

Both teams may see each other again soon at the USPA Nationals 2016, probably together with all other AAA Class teams on the leaderboard, as this year's event is once again hosted by Skydive Arizona on the west coast.

Last meet of the Northwest Skydiving League
Seattle Swift took the top position on the AA Class leaderboard one more time and did not have much serious competition last weekend. The NWSL team is the highest scoring AA Class team in the U.S.A. this year and confirmed the top spot once again.

The A Class competition pitched three teams from the Northwest and three teams from the Midwest at each other, and Fun Sponge also finished once again in 1st place, this time with a new team record average. It was the last meet of the NWSL 2016 season, and it was an interesting situation going into the meet.

Deb Correia reported that Precision was in first place with 14 NWSL points after the third meet and Das Booties in second with 12 points, followed by Fun Sponge in third with 8 points. Fun Sponge had missed the first meet and attended the next two meets with a rookie, Lauren Galloway, filling the inside center slot for player coach Deb Correia, which affected the team's position after the third meet.

A Class winner Fun Sponge
Deb Correia was back for last weekend's meet, which made a big difference in the team's scores. The situation before the last meet of the 2016 season required Precision to win the meet to finish as the league's A Class champion, which would put Das Booties in 2nd place, regardless of whether they would come in second or third.

Deb Correia explained that Das Booties in 1st and Precision in 2nd place would tie both teams in 1st place for the league championship. The winner would be determined by the highest scoring round in last weekend's meet. Das Booties would win the championship with a 1st place last weekend, and Precision would finish 2nd.

Fun Sponge could spoil the Das Booties party by winning the meet, which would put Precision in 1st place for the year, with Fun Sponge and Das Booties tied in 2nd place. The silver medal would then be determined by the highest scoring round last weekend. Fun Sponge on the top last weekend and Das Booties in 2nd would also tie Das Booties and Precision on top for the league championship, and the winner would be determined by the highest scoring last weekend.

A Class NWSL 2016 champion: Precision
Fun Sponge eventually won the 4th NWSL meet by a commanding lead and the 10.3 record average. Precision are the A Class league champion in the Northwest, and Fun Sponge took the silver medals due to the 14-pointer highscore in the last meet, and Das Booties finished 3rd.

The NWSL teams celebrated the end of the 2016 season at Das Booties member Monika Brunnenkant's home with pizza and the award ceremony.

Deb Correia said that iFly Seattle, home of the NWSL Indoor Cloud League team, donated ten minutes of tunnel time for the league champion in each category. Seattle Swift member Dmitry Rudchenko and Das Booties member Randy Barbee each won ParaGear $25 gift certificates.
