NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that Finland's annual Hanko Open had great weather this year?

posted Aug 25th, 2009 - Last weekend's scores from Finland have completed the international part of the leaderboard. Scores from the US teams at four different locations will be added as soon as possible.

Finland completed the 2009 season with the annual Hanko Open. The national championships were already held on the July 25 weekend, as the NSL News reported on 27 July 2009. The Pro Team won the 2009 title after a 10-round battle with the Tigers.

Hanko Open event site in Finland
The annual Hanko Open is a popular event that concludes Finland's competition season with a fun and not so serious meet. In fact, several other skydiving events take place at the same time, including 8-way Formation Skydiving, Freestyle and Freeflying.

Judge Jukka Olkkonen reported that there was great participation in the other events, as well, this year. He added that several AAA Class 4-way competitors attended only the 8-way competition, which left the leaderboard mostly for Finnish A Class teams.

He also said that he was glad to see that the event had much better weather than last year. The Hanko Open in 2008 was completely weathered out. Last not least, the year-end party at the Hanko Open was also just as good and well attended as usually.

Neither the Pro Team nor the Tigers competed at the Hanko Open 2009. Both teams had put all their energy into the preparations for and the actual competition at the Finnish Nationals 2009. In addition, the Pro Team has to get ready for the FAI World Cup 2009, which begins on the upcoming weekend in Prostejov, Czech Republic.

The NSL News will move the operation from DeLand to the Czech Republic this week, as well, as the event will be brought to the on-line audience live from the competition site. It will be an exciting competition in all Formation Skydiving events, and the first live reports from Prostejov will be uploaded very soon.
