posted Jul 15th, 2009 - The shift of power did not happen in Denmark. The national championships were completed in record time, as Chief Judge Ulla Mærsk reported, but Voluntas had to accept that the DaneZ are still too strong at the moment.

It was the first time in Denmark that a national championship was completed in only two days - five rounds on Monday, five rounds on Tuesday. The five rounds of the second day brought the faster sequences, and Voluntas was much closer now. In fact, for three rounds (6 - 8) it looked as if the challenger would be able to eliminate the 5-point deficit of the first day.

Voluntas won Rounds 6 and 8 with the faster sequences and was down to only three points before the last two rounds. Round 10 would bring another faster sequence with the chance to turn the table at the very end.

It turned out to be different, as the DaneZ won Round 9 by a point, which took the momentum away from Voluntas. The DaneZ eventually completed the title defense with the highscore in Round 10 and won by six points.

World Games 2009

In the meantime, the NSL News received fresh information from Taiwan, where the World Games 2009 take place this week. The competition begins on Friday, and the NSL News will try to be as up-to-date with information as possible.

Arizona Airspeed's Craig Girard sent an e-mail from the competition site in Kaohsiung and provided the NSL News with an update of the reigning world champions' World Games travel agenda.

Four of the Airspeed members arrived in Taiwan on Sunday, Mark Kirkby later at midnight. Craig Girard was still missing his skydiving equipment, which got lost by the airline with his luggage. He was hoping to get it back soon...

"We arrived in Kaohsiung yesterday, after a very long airplane ride. When we arrived in Kaohsiung we were greeted by the World Games people who took us to our hotel and got us arranged. We are in the middle of Kaohsiung near anything we need. It's an interesting place with super friendly people. We spent the day looking around in the rain, getting some food and hanging with Jay Moledsky.

The town seems very nice and super hospitable. There is a lot of pre games advertisement and from what I understand, the World Games will be televised on Eurosport. I am surprised about how big this event really is here. We start the training day on Thursday, and the competition starts on Friday. Until then, we are just getting used to the time difference."
