Did You Know...

... that Whooops and Cool Runnings have a lot in common?

Whooops 2005 - 2013
posted Jan 6th, 2014 - The Sun Path Products NSL News has followed the Dutch team Whooops from the very beginnings in 2005 to the current status, which is open for the 2014 season.

Whooops made it from the 4way beginner status in the Rookie Class of 2005 to becoming national champions and competing at the World Championships of Formation Skydiving in 2012. The 1.7 average after six rounds at the May meet of the Dutch Skydiving League 2005 was lower than where Florida Skydiving League team ZEUS started off last year.

After a quick progression through the categories for beginner teams, Whooops took on the challenge of the complete dive pool in the Dutch AAA Class of 2008. The starting level in 4way's top category was 11.6 at the Tomscat Trophy 2008. NSL-TV found a video in the archives that presented the 2008 lineup in its first AAA Class season.

Into the AAA Class: Whooops 2008 lineup
Coach Gary Smith was still living in DeLand in 2008. He had won his second 4way gold medal with DeLand Fire at the World Meet 2006 in Germany and continued for a few more years as a professional coach at Skydive DeLand. Whooops was one of the teams from The Netherlands who visited frequently in DeLand.

Gary Smith eventually moved to The Netherlands with his family and made it much easier for the Dutch teams to work with him on a consistent basis. He has also been coaching the Dutch 8way team M8trix and finally joined the active lineup as a player coach.

The Sun Path Products NSL News introduced the new M8trix lineup for the 2014 season on 27 November 2013, and it includes two Whooops members (Leon van Leeuwen, Mechie Voermans) who will give 8way priority this year.

Mastering the 15-average level: Whooops 2013 lineup
The Whooops 2013 lineup pursued the 15.0 average level and mastered it at the team's last meet after ten rounds at the Dutch Nationals 2013. Maurits Idema and Marco Bloemendaal then decided to step back at the end of the 2013 season, while the two original Whooops members accepted the M8trix slots and take on the 8way challenge.

The story on 22 December 2013 then explained that Cool Runnings will compete for The Netherlands at the World Meet 2014 in Prostejov. The Cool Runnings history is very similar compared to Whooops and began just a year later.

The new Dutch national team made it from the Rookie Class to the World Championship of Formation Skydiving, even with the original lineup, in eight years. Cool Runnings started off with a 4.0 average in 2006. The goal for 2014 could also be the 15-average level...
