Did You Know...

... that UK's Rookie Class winner visited from Northern Ireland?

Rookie Class winner Fly Wild from Northern Ireland
posted Aug 6th, 2013 - The Sun Path Products NSL News coverage of last weekend's international events begins with the Rookie Class competition in the United Kingdom. The competition in Hibaldstow had its own draw and thus a separate leaderboard. However, the Rookie Class had only teams from the United Kingdom compete last weekend, which is a good reason to take a closer look at the Hibaldstow meet.

The AAA Class leaderboard featured several of the UK teams who will compete at the World Cup 2013 next week, and the Sun Path Products NSL News will follow up with more information on this topic later.

The Hibaldstow Cup is traditionally a good opportunity for UK teams to collect additional competition experience ahead of the UK Nationals, which will take place at the same place in a few weeks. It will be a busy month for the teams in the UK delegation for the World Cup.

Rookie Class team Fly Wild had their own special travel route to get to Hibaldstow last weekend. The Rookie Class winner came from Northern Ireland for the team's first competition experience and went back home with the first gold medals ever for a team from Northern Ireland.

There was no serious competition for Fly Wild for the gold medals, while the race for the silver medals ended up with a 1-point advantage for Justice for Hoops.

The team's coach Gordon Hodgkinson reported that Fly Wild is based at the Wild Geese Skydiving Centre. He was onsite at Hibaldstow to guide the team through their first 4way competition. He said that only Nadine Bibby had previous 4way experience with a scratch team. Well Wild had attended the Hibaldstow Cup and the UK Nationals in 2012.

Rudi McClenaghan was on camera for Well Wild in 2012. He is now enjoying the 4way action in the Tail slot. Graham Wallace and David Scott celebrated their first gold medals with their first team, and Wallace completed his 300th jump in Round 3. Sam Bemment stood in to fly camera, as his team Hyrokkin didn't attend the Hibaldstow Cup this weekend.

Coach Gordon Hodgkinson said that the team had three hours of wind tunnel training. Bad weather was "scuppering their training dates", and Fly Wild arrived at Hibaldstow with only 18 team jumps. However, the team was still well prepared, as Gordon Hodgkinson explained: "The team's dedication to creeping and homework has been impressive, and it stood them in good stead when they did get in the air."

Fly Wild will make the long car and ferry journey back to Hibaldstow again in three weeks to attend the UK Nationals.
