Did You Know...

... that SDC Jetstream Tango beat the 10-average benchmark in the team's 5th year?

MWSL team 55North at the 2013 season opener
posted Jun 28th, 2013 - The teams of the Midwest Skydiving League enjoyed much better weather last weekend compared to the season opener in May where six teams struggled to make any competition jumps. Ten teams attended the meet at Skydive Chicago, host of the USPA Nationals 2013.

Only one of this year's 16 MWSL teams posted scores at both events, and 55 North used last weekend's competition to make up for the only two rounds at Chicagoland Skydiving. The AA Class team improved the meet average to 6.4 after completing all ten rounds.

Another team did the same in the AA Class. SDC Accelerando, with player coach JaNette Lefkowitz in the lineup, had attended the May meey of the Florida Skydiving league with much more weather luck completing six rounds. Accelerando now added ten rounds last weeked and went from 6.7 in May to a 7.6 meet average.

Original Jetstream Tango lineup in the MWSL Rookie Class of 2009
Five MWSL teams competed in the AA Class and squared off with two Canadian teams at Nouvel Air last weekend. SDC Jetstream Tango and Hawks pushed each other round by round for the upper hand at Skydive Chicago, and this battle helped to move both teams to the top of the AA Class leaderboard.

Canada's best AA Class team last weekend, 4Accord, finished in 3rd place after a very close race with SDC Accelerando. Backclap was only two points behind the MWSL team after six rounds in the competition for the 3rd place on last weekend's overall leaderboard in the AA Class.

55 North actually had serious competition in the A Class until GraBon Courtneys 2Bits discontinued after completing three rounds. In fact, GraBon Courtneys 2Bits, with SDC Rhythm XP videographer Alex Bittner in the active lineup, was three points ahead after Round 3 and before 55 North picked up the pace.

AA Class winner SDC Jetstream Tango had player coach Steve Lefkowitz in the lineup and beat the 10-average benchmark for the first time in team history. Jetstream Tango started in the Rookie Class competition of the Midwest Skydiving League 2009 and moved up into the AA Class in 2010.

The original lineup (Eric Bambach, Kati Matyka, Megan Pulver, Ellen Steckbar) competed for the first time at the USPA Nationals in 2010 on home turf and finished in 26th place. Jetstream Tango 2011, with Raudel Guerra for Megan Pulver in the lineup, traveled to Eloy a year later and finished in 18th place.

The 2012 season was the slowest one in team history before three of the original team members (Kati Matyka, Ellen Steckbar, Eric Bambach) now came back with Steve Lefkowitz to tackle the 2013 season on a new performance and scoring level. The USPA Nationals will be again on Jetstream Tango's home turf this year, but the team will need a replacement for SDC Rhythm XP's Point...
