NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that NSL SkyVenture Orlando Competition results have finally caught up?

Element Perris
posted Aug 31st, 2005 - The NSL SkyVenture Orlando Competition results of two more meet weekends are now available. This update completes all NSL meets of the regular season. Only the scores of the NSL Playoffs 2005 weekend on August 20 - 21 still need to be processed before the results after handicap can be posted and the certificates get on the way to Perris.

Southwest Skydiving League teams were the big winners of the meet weekend on July 30, 2005, and won each competition class after handicap, except the Rookie Class. The new Austrian national team FILA posted the highest average after four rounds (18.0), however, the 3-round performance of Paraclete in the Carolina Skydiving League set the AAA Class limit for the NSL SkyVenture Orlando Competition that weekend.

Eight teams of the Southwest Skydiving League competed in the AAA Class, six of these eight teams took the first six places after handicap. The all-female team Element Perris with Celeste Campo (Tail), Cass Emery (Outside Center), Marie Harrell (Point), Brianne Thompson (Inside Center) and Bryan Harrell on video, ended up on top of the SSL pack after the first three rounds.

Elsinore Equinox
Element Perris took full advantage of the fast round two with a sequence of five random formations and posted a new team record for a round with the 26-pointer and also a new team record average (14.5) after six rounds. The 26-pointer was also the highest raw score of all NSL teams in the AAA Class that weekend. Only the UK team Airkix (30) and the Austrian team Monkey Circus (27) scored higher, while three other international teams were able to tie the 26 points.

This round was also the highlight for Element Perris in the internal competition with the other all-female top contender, Fastrax Select. Element Perris won six points over Fastrax Select in this one round. However, Fastrax Select fought back and still managed to win this race by one single point after six rounds. Both teams will meet again next Monday in Perris.

The July 30 meet weekend also included the breakthrough competition for AA Class team Elsinore Equinox. The NSL News covered the outstanding performance already with the NSL News story on August 9. The Equinox scoring progression of the 2005 season (8.2 - 9.7 - 10.5 - 11.0 - 13.2) peaked on the July 30 meet weekend, and there was no chance for any other AA Class team to keep up with the Equinox scores after handicap.

Raeford Skycatz
Elsinore Anomaly attended the team's second competition of the SSL 2005 season and improved the meet average from 4.3 in June to 5.8 at the end of July. The third place in the A Class competition before handicap came along with the first place after handicap, and 30 free minutes of SkyVenture Orlando tunnel time will be available for the Elsinore team.

The busiest NSL team of the Rookie Class is Raeford Skycatz of the Carolina Skydiving League. The July meet was the fourth competition for the Skycatz, and the team also attended the NSL Playoffs 2005 in August. The efforts will be rewarded with a trip to the NSL Championship at SkyQuest 2005 in November, sponsored by CASL supporter Paraclete. The Skycatz won the Rookie Class competition on July 30 before handicap with a 10.0 average and also walked away with ten minutes of free tunnel time after the first place in the NSL SkyVenture Orlando Competition.

The meet weekend on August 13 was a Texas Skydiving League sweep. A total of 33 NSL and international teams competed in the four competition classes. The A Class competition included only teams from Finland, and teams of the Texas Skydiving League took the first places in the other three classes before and after handicap.
4Fun Part Deux
Dallas Thunder was the highscorer in the AAA Class with a 14.8 meet average after six rounds but was overtaken by Dallas Mojo after handicap. Teams of the Virginia Parachute Council offered serious resistance in the AA Class, and Spaceland Avalanche could barely hold off VPC team J.F.F. The competition was as tight between Texas and Virginia all across the AA Class leaderboard. TSL team 4Fun Part Deux finished in third place before handicap and won SkyVenture Orlando's 30-minute certificate after a full battle over six rounds.

All four Rookie Class teams came from Texas on the same weekend, and each of these four teams tied or improved the previous meet averages. Team America with Matt Jones, Georges Lezan, John McDonnell and Johnny Tubbs showed the best progression and finished with a new team record average of 6.5 after six rounds. The team record came along with the first place in the NSL SkyVenture Orlando Competition, even though the TSL's Wild Wings came close.
