Did You Know...

... that Slovenia will have two teams at the Indoor World Meet in Prague?

Slovenia's 4-way team at the World Meet 2004 in Croatia
posted Sep 26th, 2015 - Slovenia is one of the relatively young countries in Eastern Europe, which became independent nations when the Russian Empire downsized in the 80s and 90s. Slovenia was actually a part of Yugoslavia until 1991 and joined the European Union in 2004.

It was the same year when Croatia hosted the World Meet 2004 in Rijeka. Croatia was also a part of Yugoslavia and split in 1991. A 4-way team from Slovenia competed at a World Championship of Formation Skydiving for the first time in Spain 2001, followed up in 2003 and then came back a year later to the neighboring country.

Then came a long break until the Sky Dragons were formed in 2010 and visited the World Meet in Menzelinsk, Russia. The Sky Dragons have not missed a world meet ever since, and Slovenia has become a solid part of the Formation Skydiving competition community.

Sky Dragons at the World Meet 2014 in Prostejov
Two members of the 2010 lineup (Tomaz Hrast, Kaja Kocjan) are still training and competing with the Sky Dragons who represented Slovenia at the World Meet 2014 in Prostejov, and videographer Jure Cotic has been filming the team since 2012. Erik Kocjan and Klemen Svete attended their first world meet in Prostejov last year.

The 2014 lineup came back this year and won the national championships in September with a 16.4 average after five rounds. It seems like the Sky Dragons will compete once again for Slovenia at the next world meet in the USA next year.

The Sky Dragons will first compete at the 1st Indoor World Championship of Formation Skydiving next month in Prague before they will make plans for the 2016 season, and there will be a second team from Slovenia at the Hurricane Factory.

Vesce at the World Cup 2013 in Banja Luka
Saso Tepina has been a member of national bronze medalist Vesce and is very active in developing Formation Skydiving competition in Slovenia. He told the Sun Path Products NSL News that his team was recently re-organized to turn it into a lineup for the 4-way Women category.

Vesce competed in the Open Class at the World Cup 2013 in Banja Luka and a few other meets before the change.

He said that Vesce is now the first female 4-way team in Slovenia, and he is now on camera. Sky Dragons and Vesce will both compete for Slovenia at the indoor competition in Prague. Saso Tepina said that the 4-way teams in Slovenia are waiting for the country's new wind tunnel to begin with the operation. The delay was a setback for both teams' indoor preparations. However, it will be the first time in the young Slovenian history that two teams will attend a world meet.
