NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that Mathieu Bernier is the new French national coach?

Jerome David (bottom right) with his FS delegation in Menzelinsk 2010
posted Jul 8th, 2015 - The most recent update from France, including the scores of the second Coupe de France competition this year, was followed by additional news related to the topic.

National coach Jérémie Rollett informed the Sun Path Products NSL News that he puts the responsibility for the French Formation Skydiving delegation into the hands of a new former 4-way and 8-way world champion beginning this month. Mathieu Bernier will now guide the French delegation to the next World Championship of Formation Skydiving in 2016.

Jérémie Rollett was the successor of Jerome David who had finished his coaching career with the unique triple-gold success (8-way, 4-way Open, 4-way Women) in Menzelinsk 2010, after almost 15 years of work for the French federation.

National coach Jérémie Rollett at the Mondial Dubai 2012
Jérémie Rollett had shared the 2010 success with the previous national coach, as he won the 4-way Open Class gold medals for France, together with Guillaume and Mathieu Bernier, Julien Degen and Olivier Henaff on camera. He had also won 8-way gold medals for France in 2006 and 2008, both under Jerome David's guidance, as well.

Jérémie Rollett's time in charge of the French Formation Skydiving delegation was much shorter and included two world meets. The French national team in 4-way Women added two more gold medals in 2012 and 2014, while France lost the top positions in 8-way and 4-way Open.

Jérémie Rollett received a job offer from Qatar, and he will continue with his coaching work, only with a new team, the Qatar Tigers. Former NMP-PCH Hayabusa member Luc Verstrepen was coaching the Tigers in the past years and leaves the team with a secure Top 10 position in the world. Jérémie Rollett will now probably pursue the medal positions.

Gold medal coach Marin Ferre at the World Meet 2014 in Prostejov
Jérémie Rollett had recently re-organized the French Formation Skydiving delegation. He assigned the former 8-way world champions of 2006, 2008 and 2010 back to their most successful event. Then he asked Marin Ferre, gold medal coach of the French teams in 4-way Women, to work with the new 4-way Open Class lineup, while he took over the coaching of the French Girls.

The new French Girls just posted their first scores with the complete lineup last weekend at the Coupe de France competition in Vannes. Jérémie Rollett said that the team had a good first half of the meet, and he was not happy with the other four rounds.

He said that exits and A-slots were not too bad, while B-slots and slower jumps are not good enough: "We can't present jumps without troubles at the moment, that's why the scores are not good. But, we can see very good sequences on each jump, so we are confident for the next few months."

New French national coach: Mathieu Bernier
It will be Mathieu Bernier's job to turn the French Girls' good sequences of last weekend's competition into a consistent performance on gold medal level. Mathieu Bernier will not only be the new French national coach for the Formation Skydiving delegation. He will also continue the coaching work with the French Girls.

It will be a very busy time period for Mathieu Bernier from here on forward to the World Meet 2016 at Skydive Chicago. The Sun Path Products NSL News reported earlier that he is also the player coach for the very promising national B-Team, Artemis Saumur, and that is not all and enough. Mathieu Bernier is training and competing with the 8-way lineup that will challenge the Golden Knights for the gold medals next year.

Jérémie Rollett said that it is not unusual for the French national coach to have a lot of hats on at the same time, and Mathieu Bernier will probably have the opportunity to re-organize the coaching jobs at the end of the 2015 season. However, if anybody can handle the multi-event pressure, Jérémie Rollett has probably found the perfect successor. Mathieu Bernier is the only Formation Skydiving competitor in the history of the sport who managed to win gold medals in 4-way and 8-way at the same world meet...
