Windy and cold in Denmark: AAA awards
posted May 20th, 2015 - The Sun Path Products NSL News published a preview of the 2015 season in Denmark on May 5th. The DFU Cup 2015 took place last weekend and became a victim of bad weather.

The Danish teams had only twice the chance to get some numbers on the scoreboard, and the reigning champions, VAF Warriors, made it very clear who is the team to beat in Denmark this year. Challenger Pangaea could not even get close, and Prime Pickles did not have the event on the team schedule.

The VAF Warriors attended their first meet this year, while the challengers for the top spot in Denmark had both competed at the World Challenge 2015. All three teams will face each other at the national championships in July.

VAF Warriors after winning the 2014 nationals
The VAF Warriors had launched the 2015 season with tunnel camps and an indoor/outdoor combination in Empuriabrava in April with coach Roy Janssen. Pangaea entered the DFU Cup after extensive tunnel training and no training jumps at all. However, the Pangaea members were eager to see the results after the indoor training.

None of the two teams brought their original videographer (Anders Krabbenhøft - VAF Warriors, Bjarke Gjødesen - Pangaea) to the meet. Stefan Rosenberg filled in for the Warriors and Mette Kristensen for Pangaea.

The weather forecast was not the best, and the first meet day allowed only one round for all six teams. VAF Warriors took the lead with a 13-pointer after a point deduction. Pangaea had an unfortunate start with three busts.

A Class in 2014: Talent Team AirRush
The bad weather was followed by trouble with the jump plane after Round 1. The Skyvan was down for another whole day, and the time pressure was on when it was finally back in operation. The teams eventually completed Round 2, and the AAA Class leader won the last round of the meet after two more point deductions. Pangaea experienced additional damage and lost five more points in Round 2.

Denmark's FS 4-way project has the VAF Warriors as the A-Team this year. There is no B-Team, and the federation has assigned two "talent teams" instead, Phoenix and AirRush, who both moved up from the A Class and attended their first AAA Class meet last weekend.

Both teams had a good competition in their own 2-round meet. AirRush was the stronger A Class team last year, however, Phoenix took a 1-point lead after Round 1. AirRush came back in Round 2 and finished a point ahead.

The next competition in Denmark is the national championship in July, where the same six teams and the Prime Pickles will show up again.

The VAF Warriors have scheduled a training camp in Spain for June and another one on home turf a few weeks later, when coach Roy Janssen will visit Denmark. Pangaea does not have a well defined training schedule yet and works on plans for an outdoor camp. Prime Pickles travel to Perris, California, for their training before the national championship. Phoenix and AirRush train in Denmark and also join forces for a tunnel camp at Bodyflight Bedford with Joey Jones.

VAF Warriors finished well ahead of Pangaea, however, the national team is still on alert, as team member John Petersen said: "One thing is clear: Pangaea has not shown their full potential yet, and we are still on the way to our peak performance. The true outdoor performance of Prime Pickles is still unknown, and it will probably not be revealed before the nationals..."
