Did You Know...

... that the Hurricane Factory is hosting the first FAI/IPC Indoor World Meet?

posted May 13th, 2015 - The International Parachuting Commission (IPC) "conducts parachuting activities, in particular world records and international competitions", for the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI).

Indoor competition is not really a parachuting activity, however, the IPC added the new and popular sport to its agenda when the FAI decided to get involved.

The first official FAI event was the FAI World Cup of Indoor Skydiving, hosted by iFLY Austin in November 2014. Aerokart Deep Blue won the competition and became FAI's first official indoor world cup champion in 4-way Women. Bad Boys from the Czech Republic won the first set of FAI gold medals in 4-way Open and SDC Standard in VFS 4-way.

Next step into the indoor competition world for the FAI/IPC was an officially sanctioned World Championship, and it is happening this year for the first time.

The Hurricane Factory in Prague is hosting the 1st FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championships 2015, which is scheduled for October 20 - 24.

It is a very well fitting place, as teams from the Czech Republic have shown in the past years how successful the combination of indoor and outdoor training and competition can be.

Jan Klapka and his Bad Boys have lifted 4-way competition in the Czech Republic to a completely new level over the years, in close cooperation with the Hurricane Factory.

Bad Boys and HF Chicks, silver medalist in 4-way Women at the Indoor World Cup last year, will now try to defend their home turf on a higher stage.

Defending the home turf at this year's event will be a much more challenging job compared to the Indoor World Cup. The 1st Indoor World Championship will bring stronger teams to the Hurricane Factory, including the unofficial indoor world champions, NMP-PCH Hayabusa.

Defending home turf: Bad Boys and HF Chicks
The FAI/IPC rules for a World Championship allow only one team to represent each country in a category. The 4-way competition offers four different categories: 4-way Open, 4-way Women, 4-way Junior, 4-way VFS and VFS Junior.

Each country's 4-way delegation could consist of five teams. Freestyle and Dynamic add six more categories to the whole meet agenda.

FAI/IPC rules require the national federations to select the teams and competitors for the world championships. The qualification criteria is not clearly defined in each country yet, and the host recommends that potential participants get in touch with their IPC Delegates or national skydiving federations to secure the slots.

The Hurricane Factory will assist potential participants by e-mail with contact information if there are questions and doubts related to the qualification rules.

Links to additional event rules and information are also available at the host's website.
