NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that Niklas Hemlin provided a new Airspeed update?

Impressive in DeLand: Arizona Airspeed
posted Apr 30th, 2015 - The Sun Path Products NSL News story on February 17th provided an update from the Arizona Airspeed headquarters in Eloy after the Wind Games 2015 and before the Paraclete XP Indoor and Outdoor Championships 2015.

Niklas Hemlin explained that his team was in an "experimental phase" at that time. Airspeed actually continued with trying more and different options for the continuity plan throughout the next two meets in Raeford and DeLand, as Niklas Hemlin now told the Sun Path Products NSL News during a new live NSL Talk on Tuesday.

He was on his way to a training camp with two teams from Brazil in South America and used his waiting time at the Phoenix International Airport for the news update by phone. He talked about the components of the new Airspeed engineering and continuity plan for the next two years, and the audience has the opportunity to watch Airspeed's most recent competition jumps at the same time.

Original Arizona Airspeed lineup
Niklas Hemlin said that Airspeed now has a "rough draft" of the engineering and continuity plan, even though there will be some more fine-tuning to come. He said that there is more time available since the main event is still quite far away, the Mondial 2016, where Airspeed will try to take back the 4-way gold medals from NMP-PCH Hayabusa.

There is not much "new under the sun" in the technical development of the block techniques. Airspeed's current lineup is just more flexible and open to different engineering options, which came with the new slots for Thiago Gomes and Niklas Hemlin.

Niklas Hemlin went back into the history of 4-way competition this time and explained how the team strategies changed over the years. He compared the plan of the original Airspeed lineup with the one that DeLand Majik used to become 4-way world champions and added that the indoor training has offered the opportunity to try more options in the past years.

Impressive in Bedford: NMP-PCH Hayabusa
The competition has also become so tight on the top level that it is more important to avoid serious mistakes. "Polishing what already exists" does not help this purpose much, as it seems to be more important for Airspeed to improve the team performance rather than searching for too many new options.

Airspeed had a good start into the 2015 season and was performing and scoring on the same level where the previous lineup finished up after the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2014, as the videos and scores of the three Airspeed 2015 meets were showing.

Niklas Hemlin said that his team was surely watching and studying the Hayabusa performance at the World Challenge 2015, as well. He said that his team was not surprised by the impressive Belgian performance. Airspeed expect Hayabusa to be the main competition until the Mondial 2016, and the reigning 4-way world champions were showing their latest skills in Bedford. Both teams will most likely meet each other next time at the Clash of Champions and the World Air Games in Dubai at the end of the year.
