Did You Know...

... that Arizona Airspeed's Thomas Hughes will compete with a broken hand?

Broken right hand: Center Outside Thomas Hughes
posted Jan 22nd, 2015 - The teams are set for the Wind Games 2015, which begin tomorrow. The Sun Path Products NSL News story on 20 January 2015 provided a preview of the first showdown this year between NMP-PCH Hayabusa and Arizona Airspeed.

The Belgian indoor and outdoor world champions may have gained an advantage in the meantime that they did not desire to have. Arizona Airspeed's center outside Thomas Hughes broke his hand on Wednesday on the way to the wind tunnel in a bicycle crash. Airspeed completed the training session, however, a center outside with a broken hand will make it a very challenging competition.

The duel of the two top teams is not the only interesting part of the upcoming Wind Games. In fact, only four of the 16 open class teams have not appeared yet on any previous SKYLEAGUE.COM leaderboard, and the other 12 teams will be engaged in their own battles, according to their performance and scoring level.

The preliminary leaderboard indicates where those other battles can be expected. One of the four teams without any scoring history (Ninja4) is still ranked in the middle of the field due to the names of the team members. Pete Allum and Luc Verstrepen have teamed up with two Italian eX3MO members and will probably try to stay close to Voodoo. The Bad Boys, official FAI Indoor World Cup champions of 2014, will also try to be a part of this internal race.

Pete Allum's XL team mate Steve Hamilton is guiding a new SAVoA lineup, with original member Gareth Hicks, Rai Ahmed (Kaizen) and Audrey Rowe (Team XX) through the Wind Games. SAVoA has probably the Tigers from Finland and Jazz Republic, with InTime operators Claire King and Dirk Venter, somewhere nearby on the leaderboard.

Another very exciting battle can be expected between the former French 8-way world champions of Gavroches and Thunder ISR. Both teams may push each other even closer to the two top teams than it might be expected at this point in time.

The three teams in 4-way Women have guaranteed medal positions, but the competition for the top spot may still offer an interesting race. The HF Chicks are indoor experts only and started with 4-way competition less than a year ago at the World Challenge 2014 in the Rookie Class. They are now Open Class competitors and attended the FAI World Cup of Indoor Skydiving 2014 where they finished with a 19.0 average.

NFTO is identical with the Bodyflight Isis lineup of 2014 (Laura James, Ane Brentford, Sarah Smith, Anna Hicks), with Claire Scott replacing Sarah Smith. It's an experienced team who will make it difficult for the HF Chicks to finish on the top. The Spanish Gatas are on home turf and posted a 17.3 average a year ago, which could easily go up by a few points.

Round 1 is scheduled for Friday, January 23rd at 10:30 AM, and there will be a live streaming service embedded in the Sun Path Products NSL News updates.
