Did You Know...

... that Christy Frikken is the correct answer?

posted Oct 9th, 2014 - The correct answer to the recent poll question was not that easy to find, as the relevant event took place almost five years ago. It required good knowledge of the SKYLEAGUE.COM archives to find the correct answer, unless somebody was a live witness at the World Challenge 2010.

Even Katie Woods' 28.0 average with Evolution at the World Challenge 2013 was not enough to be on the very top of the scoring list of female 4-way competitors in history. The highest 10-round meet average with the whole dive pool in the draw was posted at the same event where Katie Woods and Julia Foxwell finished with their 26.3 average for Satori.

It still was not Eliana Rodriguez, the leader in the poll and slightly ahead of Katie Woods, who competed for Arizona Airspeed at the World Challenge 2010. Airspeed finished only in 5th place, and another US team finished two points ahead of the reigning world champions, Perris Fury with Christy Frikken.

Christy Frikken with Perris Fury at the World Challenge 2010
Perris Fury created the 2-point advantage over Airspeed with the Super Sequence in Round 2 (J,M,E,D,L) that they won by 11 points with the highscore for the round. Perris Fury's 66-pointer still stands as the highest 4-way score for a single round in the history of the sport. NMP-PCH Hayabusa came very close a year later with a 65-pointer (H,M,Q,K,A) at the last World Challenge with a set Super Sequence.

Perris Fury lost Josh Hall at the end of the 2010 season, who became a 4-way world champion with Arizona Airspeed in 2012, and eventually disbanded. However, Christy Frikken is the correct answer for the poll question, and she still owns the highest average (29.8) and the 66-pointer.

Christy Frikken is now SDC Rhythm XP's center inside after years as center outside for Perris Fury. Her former team mate Chris Farina is in the same slot for Airspeed and tries to win his gold medal, as their former team mate Josh Hall did in 2012. SDC Rhythm XP is trying to challenge Airspeed at the same time.

2 points behind: Eliana Rodriguez with Arizona Airspeed in Bedford 2010
There are actually also four other female competitors who posted a higher average than Katie Woods and Julia Foxwell did in 2010.

The French Deep Blue members (Sophie Deremaux, Berangere Duplouy, Francoise Simons-Hamouchi, Amelie Tirman) finished with a 27.2 average ahead of Satori in Bedford. All for members would be in 4th place behind Christy Frikken (29.8), Eliana Rodriguez (29.6) and Katie Woods (28.0).

Of course, it is very difficult to compare the scores and averages directly with each other, as the Super Sequences change the outcome dramatically. Katie Woods' 28.0 average last year with Evolution is most likely of a higher value than the meet averages in 2010. Just another 20 points on top of any score for a round would have lifted her average above the 30-point mark. However, the answer to the poll question is still the same...
