Did You Know...

... that Voodoo is the new British 4-way champion?

AAA Class awards at the UK Nationals 2014
posted Sep 8th, 2014 - The 4-way competition at the UK Nationals 2014 was successfully completed with all scheduled rounds. The 75 teams in Hibaldstow set once again a new participation record.

Voodoo won the AAA Class competition with a new team record average. The three members of the South African national team until 2012, Vana Parker, Dennis Parker and David Sumter, competed with former 4-way Women world champion Liz Matthews in the lineup.

The three original Voodoo members have now won the national titles of two different countries, this one by ten points with a 19.5 record average in Hibbaldstow. They are now aiming at the 20-point average level at the USPA Nationals 2014 with coach Gary Smith.

Gary Smith is also from South Africa, however, Voodoo retired as the national team of their native country, as the three original members reside in the United Kingdom. Gary Smith lives in The Netherlands and competed with the Dutch national 8-way team M8trix at the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2014.

The biggest battle of the meet took place between the two British national 4-way teams of 2014, Vision 99 and Kaizen, who had both competed two weeks earlier at the world meet in Prostejov.

Kaizen brought home a bronze medal for the UK delegation in 4-way Women (16.1) and Vision 99 finished three points behind the 6th place with a 16.4 average. Both teams posted new record averages, as well, significantly higher than at the world meet in Prostejov.

It was the 4th time this year that both teams competed against each other. The duel for the British top spot this year began at the World Challenge where Kaizen won clearly (21.5 - 19.5) by 20 points.

The difference was down to three points at the Hibaldstow Cup 2014, where Vision 99 competed with a different lineup. The Sun Path Products NSL News reported the team's personnel changes with the story on 7 August 2014.

The Vision 99 lineup changed again at the world meet, where XL and Satori member John McIver competed for Great Britain, together with Steve Hamilton and the two original members Simon Guest and Ady King. This time, Vision 99 outscored Kaizen, even though both teams competed in different events.

The UK Nationals would be the final showdown between the two national teams this year, and it became the biggest thriller of the year.

Vision 99 competed with the 4th different lineup in Hibaldstow a few days ago and won by a single point. Original member Mike Hayes, who was not able to make the trip to Prostejov, took back his Center Outside slot, and coach Steve Hamilton switched to Center Inside, where John McIver competed for Vision 99 at the world meet.

Kaizen had the best performance in team history and went into Round 10 with a 1-point lead. The only Kaizen penalty at the whole national championship was a costly one in Round 10. Vision 99 gained two points and took the silver medals behind Voodoo. The 8-way competition follows this weekend in Hibaldstow.
