Did You Know...

... that NWSL team Synergy followed up with impressive outdoor scores?

NWSL indoor group on August 28
posted Sep 10th, 2013 - Team Synergy of the Northwest Skydiving League caught the Sun Path Products NSL News attention several times this year, and impressive news keep coming from the Northwest Skydiving League.

The last time was after the Indoor Cloud League scores for the month of August were complete, and Synergy had posted a very impressive 29-pointer for the AA Class sequence. Deb Correia reported after the the last indoor session at iFLY Seattle that she had NWSL team Synergy posting scores for her group and 11 participants on August 28, including three who were brandnew to the Indoor Cloud League event: Guy Cosway, Babs Selig and Angela Anderson:

"Guy and Babs are not skydivers but have done some tunnel time - no 4-way though - and it was great to have them participate. They flew with our coaches turning in impressive scores of 13 points for Rookie A and 24 points for Rookie AA! They both flew very clean and quiet, which contributed to the great scores."

Indoor experts with great outdoor scores: Synergy
Other participants on August 28 were Laura Brown, Erin Wenzel and Sopurkh Khalsa, who flew with coach Carolyn Chow. Bill Selig, Monika Brunnenkant and Angela Anderson had David Zhang as their player coach. Dmitry Rudchenko and Denis Pershakov were guided by David Zhang and Carolyn Chow stepping in quickly to fill an open slot and make it happen. The four NWSL indoor coaches added the 18 points in the AAA Class to the NWSL August account.

Then the Northwest Skydiving League held their last meet of the season on September 7 at Skydive Kapowsin, with Dave Correia as event judge. The day started off foggy, and the first load was able to take off around 11 am. One other load made it into the air before the teams were on a weather hold.

Synergy, the only AA Class team, was training for their first appearance at the USPA Nationals 2013. Synergy has mainly trained in the windtunnel and took advantage of the weather hold to get some coaching on exits from Deb Correia and Jeff Smith, as well as some general information about competing at national championships.

    New NWSLRookie Class team: TBD
Rookie Class team TBD competed for the first time and is composed of Erin Wenzel, Laura Brown, Nancy McFadden and Kat Molik. JJ Johnson was on camera for both TBD and Fun Sponge. Erin Wenzel, Laura Brown, Nancy McFadden had attended a few 4way indoor sessions at iFLY Seattle with coaches Deb Correia and Carolyn Chow. Erin Wenzel and Laura Brown had also competed in quite a few of the Indoor Cloud League events.

The only direct competition at the NWSL meet was between Joes and Fun Sponge, and also between the former team mates of Elsinore Vengeance. There has been a friendly rivalry between the two teams all year. The Joes worked with Dave Correia throughout the past winter in the tunnel. When Dave Correia broke his ankle in May, former Vengeance teammate Jeff Smith stepped in to fly and coach for the summer season.

Fun Sponge has competed with player coach Deb Correia at the meets this summer, but has done no additional training or flying together since last season. However, both teams had a good meet, and the scores went back and forth, with a tie in Round 1, Joes taking a 2-point lead in Round 2, Fun Sponge coming back to take a 1-point lead in Round 3. Finally, the Joes had a great Round 4 and edged out Fun Sponge by three points.

5.6 in Rookie to 10.7 in A Class: Joes
Deb Correia said that the teams ran out of daylight after sharing the same videographer, and this live duel was over after four rounds. The Joes ended the 2012 season as competition rookies with a 5.6 average and now posted a 10.7 meet average in the A Class. By comparison, Fun Sponge ended last year with a 7.2 meet average in the A Class and a 10.0 average this year. Deb Correia said that both teams were very happy with their performance.

Synergy had to look at last weekend's overall leaderboard to check the competition in the AA Class. It must have been encouraging just a week before the start of the USPA Nationals 2013.

Nine teams competed in this category, and the teams in the first five places were all from different nations, as the ESL Championship 2013 took place at the same time. Synergy finished in 3rd place and may have become one of the top contenders for the next competition this weekend at Skydive Chicago...
